I was just sitting watching tv and saw the advert for the Dyson ball.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_9nsWJ6QbE
My first thought was, thats quite cool & why has no-one ever thought of that before? But the more i think about it, its really just a gimmik.
Imagine yourself hoovering with the Dyson ball...
Would you go round in circles because you could, or would you still do the normal 'forwards & backwards' actions.
Considdering the fact that most rooms are square and the fastest and most logical method is doing it in strips, i think its a waste of time. Its not as if you encounter many 's' bend obstacles or hairpins when you hoover.

Now awaits the inevitable "A 106 GTi would still out handle it through the twisties" comment.

funnily enough, i saw the advert earlier and was thinking the same thing.
Also; since when do hoovers resemble 4 wheeled trucks?

I thought the same as you. You will still do it in strips as its the easiest way to do it.
In fact it will make it harder you cant go straight

I think he infringed one of his own patents when he designed this as it originally came from his wheelbarrow design from years back...
Though it's a rediculous design, plus in the advert he is admiting that even his own designs were flawed from the begninning; despite the fact that no upright hoover uses fixed axles - they all tend to use uni-directional wheels that allow the hoover to steer. Also, I think that they need to go in a straight line. It's not like you need 106 GTI handling when vacumming the house up is it.
Sorry... Can you tell i'm studying product design

My dad bought one ages ago,not much diffrent from our old dyson tbh..never had problems getting our old cyclone one round corners?
I cant stand upright hoovers though its annoying holding the hoover and hoovering the stairs.prefer the handheld on the stairs.
