Because my dad runs a small company, and shit laws like that fucking ruin him
I agree with holiday pay, but not getting paid it because you haven't taken it is wrong.
Also, it's your fault if you go on holiday, why get paid for that privilege.

Because he is a Bricklaying Sub-contractor. Even though the men that work for him a technically self-employed, they are not entitled to holiday pay. In the bricklaying trade, if you're laying, you're earning, and the Sub-contractor gets paid. If you don't lay, you don't get paid. So when they take holiday and get paid for it, the money has to come from somewhere. And in the current climate of building trade, there isn't a lot left over for this sort of thing
Dad is just finishing a 15 or so dwelling site. Each house will average over £150k easy on the market. He did the footings, blockwork and brickwork for all 15 houses, for under £150k

So because of one specific trade and it's current climate you are against holiday in general clever

Its something all businesses have to contend with & work into their quotes. Labor rates for building sub contractors are huge, ive done a stint as a contract surveyor for a construction sub contractor & seen some of the prices they charge. Theres plenty work around just now to keep everyone busy, up here anyway.

Yeah, same goes for the Spar I work for though. Granted, I'm an employee so shouldn't care, but because I know about it through dad's work, I just don't agree with it.

Well, dad is struggling to make a profit on any work he does, because of the current climate. Dad tendered for a job, then had to take £15k off it, just to get down to the cheapest subbie. Don't think this was £15k profit though, that was a very keen quote, and a few years ago he'd have been able to charge more.
But also, all the H&S shit that goes with the building trade, dad works on site during the day, on the tools, laying bricks. Then comes home, and does all the paperwork and H&S bullshit but effectively not getting paid for it, because the tender only covers his and his men's wages, for actually laying the bricks.

25 days (or whatever) paid leave is just a part of life, it has been for as long as any of our lifetimes. Businesses just have to deal with it....its not asif its something new

It is in the sub-contracting game. Dad has been in the game for 25 years, he'd know
