Turned int a Fireball on Sunday Night, It spat out a rod and the oil caught fire after coming in contact with the turbo

I'm well gutted for him because it was a really well built conversion. It's a shame really .

Was it running stupid boost by any chance? I didnt think these engines were known for spitting rods!

Can't remember how much boost he was running, but whatever happened it left a huge hole in the bottom end.
Personnally it looks like oil starvation but I wouldn't put any money on it

291bhp it was running last i heard! with purged CO2. Only thing i can think of is it wasnt set up very well as at that sort of power it really shouldnt split a rod

i gather it was an engine conversion? as rs's only came in blue.
saw the pics in the morning thread yesterday, i'd be gutted 
might be a silly question but, is he fully covered?

read about this yesterday on local forum feel so sorry for him as ive seen all the work gone into this over the years. I remember when it was a 1.4 with nos which beat me 1.8 escort

Yeah, was a good conversion- i'm not entirely sure who as i didn't bother asking him i think it was pumaspeed though. oh, everything was declared The car was running fine beforehand because he took me for a spin earlier on sunday (a couple of hrs before)
