welcome to the wonders of lift off oversteer... I think it's gonna catch so many track novices out now a lot of people are going on track...

But it's a lesson that imo should be learnt on uk tracks, before people venture to nurburg, as less run off / usually higher speed and more costly.

Does look a bit slippy / damp, but the main reason the back end went, was he was turning and came off the throttle (So the car became unsettled) you can hear the throttle come off just at the point the back end went.

Hope he was alright.

also people need to stop putting so much opposite lock on when the rear does slide out...

my mate did this on the nurburgring in his saxo... back end went, and he chucked full opposite lock on, then wheels gripped and launched them the other way into the barrier.

slight opposite lock, back on the throttle slightly and then cancel it and straighten back up the wheel.

^^^^^^^^^^

Thats what i've been trying to tell my mate who's building up a MK2 Astra GTE. I've told him that lift off oversteer is going to kill that car with him driving like he does.

But yeah, little turn of the wheel and a little of throttle and you might be lucky enough to save it.

To be honest, lift off oversteer is no bad thing, if you know when it's gonna happen, why its gonna happen and how to control it.

On my car, on track, if my car is understeering, I purposely lift off and flick it in, to get the back end to come round slightly and continue ... also had it go when i didn't expect it before, but just acted accordingly and was fine... (though when I was younger I did do the lift off oversteer in my car once and over corrected, then corrected it back and ended up nearly making a mess, but then I learnt what to do instead).

But the problem is, most novice track drivers don't know it's gonna happen and because they're novices they feel the safest way is to take it easy... so they drive around the track, off and on the power often, like mid bend doing comfort touches of the brake and lifting off as they feel they're going slightly too quick or whatever and woooooshhh...

then because it happens and they don't expect it, they suddenly pile on opposite lock and get what happened in that vid.

Should be part of driving test imo.

Easy mistake to make.

My Megane done it all the time, You either learn to control it or lose your car. I ended up on top of a few rounabouts with lift off over steer, These things happen.

Glad he was ok.

i have this alot on my corsa on damp roound abouts, the back ends come out roughly about5-6 times, iv saved it twice, but been going a little slower, and the rest iv been goin fast, nerves kicked in and i just lock the other way automaticly, you need to over come the fear of wrecking you car to keep cool, i find it hard, i will get into track days when im abit older though

i had exact same issue there mate in my gsi, only did it on round abouts, even doing 20-25 mph an it would go, found it only did it when some1 was in the bk. checked it out 1 day an i think it was seized load sensing valve. it still had movment but was seized slighly on, so when some 1 sat in back it went on harder than usuall. ended facing on coming traffic a few times

Could of been alot worse but the main thing is that he's ok, cars can be fixed.

I did almost the same thing on that corner but was more down to it was raining on the day and lack of experience at the time.

My birds just span her 106 'zest' about 15 minutes ago

Luckily she was only going reasonably slow round a looped turn off from a motorway. She had just been to drop me off at home aswell and I was thinking how unsturdy the 106 felt (wet also) compared to her corsa c

Yup, soooo true. If I ever I came across lift over-steer I would simply straighten the wheels, and not give it opposite lock, wouldnt kick out the other way then - and as soon as I straightened the wheels, I would be back on the gas and it would sort lift off over-steer out

oh dear sounds like he put the power down a tad early, which he then lifted off leading to lift off oversteer bad news in most cases. hope he gets it all sorted soon.

The back end in my corsa will not step out no matter how hard you go for it, it will just understeer if going stupid!

@ At paul 106 bloke....

are 106 gtis disc all round? Do you suffer from brake fade? I had brand new discs pads and rear shoes with reground drums about a month before i went round donnington at weekend. And after 10 mins they were full on shagged! Took them off and they have gone hard a shiny like a polish rock!

Mines a corsa sport with drums at back btw just wondering if they are renound for dying on corsa or is it just standard hatch brakes arent good enough?. I were also running steelies with little ventilation. Do you think that were it. Any info is good!

Tar!
