anyone got a copy of the rules to hand? I am picking up a clio 16v tomorrow for pennies, need to know if I can spend the rest of the budget on mods? homemade Tb's, some 2nd hand management and nitrous would make for a good contender me thinks

Car AND mods must cost £999 or under.
You can sell parts from the car to fund other mods.
It must fit in with the spirit of the challenge. The example they use is not having a titanium engine block and trying to justify it just because you work at McLaren.
Basically, work on rough retail prices and it's sort of fair.

cool, im doing it then. it has shite alloys I can probably sell to some chav for £200, leather interior that is mint must be worth something, it has full electrics that should be worth something to someone.....
it should be quick enough with some choice mods and will outhandle most things, ideal contender

Dave, the last winner had 320bhp and 4wd.
You probably won't win, but it'll be a good laugh anyway

yeah, Pulsar GTI-R with a buggered bottom end, sold the interior and put a new bottom end in it, turned the boost up, hey presto.
Cost less than £999 too I think.

sounds like a cool idea, but at the end of the day - be impossible to actually regulate...
i.e. someone you know could sell you the car cheap, you sell parts, do most of the work yourself and buy parts from mates and end up with a sorted car for £999 which is worth £5k easy.

Paul, they've already done it once, it worked before.
The idea is that everyone can be trusted, they know the cars which are entered, they decide if it's "in the spirit" before allowing it in, so if they feel that you've actually spent £5k, or got £5ks worth of bits, you won't get in.
You don't win anything anyway, so there's no reason to cheat, all the readers are there for the same thing, because they want to have a laugh.

They should force you to sell the car for £999 at the end of the race, that would put anyone off fiddling it

By the way, if anyone wants to enter a Weekend Racer team I'll quite happily stump up the capital.
Could even make a nice competition prize when the event is over.
Edit - need to check it's allowed of course?
