what happens in these situations?

Is the plate now the insurance company's?

The car was MOT'd, TAX'd etc.....

yeah, still no news... and getting quite frankly very annoyed with the police. The officer is now on holiday for 2 days and has not got back to us regarding a simple question (asked 3 times).

Thats a bit shit about the plate :/

you don't get the plate back if the cars stolen and not recovered, never thought about that before.

Replacement cost? Not sure - probably worth asking the insurance company straight as they'll more than likely have policy on it.

'Some' insurance companies will need it to be declaired as a modification to have a claim on a cherished plate. Like when you phone up you actually need to tell them 'its got a plate, value £500 I want that covered' otherwise its just a reg on a car.

I remember reading that somewhere, god knows where/when.

Its worth a try to claim it, though dont be surprised if they decline!

Think about it in the sense the car goes underground for several years, its then sold to some unsuspecting punter comes back into circulation. It wouldnt be possible to re-issue the plate on those grounds alone.

Private plates are trouble imo, makes your car more recognisable. Sometimes wish I didnt have mine, especially after my spot of road rage with that wanker in the vectra this morning. Quick 10 minute google & hes got alot of info on me......quite scary if you think about it.

The plate isn't reissued though - it's transferred to it's owners who probably later assign it to a new car.

The old car, if recovered, goes back on age related standard plate.

Problem there of course is that if you drive around in another Skyline with that reg on you would get stopped every 3 minutes.

Ive used my numberplate as a username, its visable from my sigs, pictures I post, people know me & my car even if its just from the fact ive got a private number. I post all kinds of stuff online without a second thought - where I stay, what I plan to do at the weekend....shit, if you have a fancy plate with a nice car attached you could in theory be giving alot away to the wrong people!!

Something to think about!It just makes you a whole lot more identifiable!

Ok Transferred back to owners then, its still on another car, which now has some heat on it, with that plate attached stollen for one of a number of reasons related to one crime or another, if the plate is cancelled & transferred to another car it would cause all manor of mix ups I would imagine!. They should wipe the details eventually, return the plate somehow, I just know that the dont, for whatever their reasons!

yup... can see it being an issue if the car turns up in a year or so, and we put the plate on another R32.

Money for a plate would be better spent on top notch security & a tracker - stop some dirty bastard trying their luck again!

Im thinking about all the attemped breakins you've had over the past 24 months. Could well be related! If I dont stand corrected one of your lockups was tampered with, several attempts on the Type R, now the skyline. Ive got a hunch someones watching your moves, or possibly im thinking too much as usual :S

security wont stop them if they are pros! have even seen tracker blockers on ebay cheap

Gutted for you Fee & AK been though it myself fookin horrible experience been paranoid ever since and it was over 10 years ago
