right i know the civics are 2L and are around 200bhp iirc, but a mate of mine said last night that a gti would keep up with one... what would a race be like? i would have thought the type r all the way but i know its heavier and the gti is like a tin can...

i'd say it would be around equal, due to 106, being made of tinfoil and not weighing much, and the civic being a tank

its impossible to own both and just cause youve owned both say the other is quicker, a red-top corsa feels quicker than my ibiza, however its miles off in a race

They would be neck and neck to a certain extent! I'd imagine the CTR would eventually start pulling away slowly.

exactly...

redtop corsa is equal, if not faster (seen an ecowreck beat a type r in a race )
and a 106gti is on par with a redtop corsa,

then i would say it's equal like i said

It was a guess, you would think the type r would be faster.

How is it impossible to own both Rob? But I agree, the CTR will always feel quicker than a 106 due to the pulling when it hits Vtec yo.

Upto 90/100mph id say they'd be about equal then the CTR would pull away.

Same with an XE Corsa vs GTi from 90/100 the Corsa wins.

Raced a CTR in an XE Corsa and from 120mph the CTR slowly pulled away.

Your mate is true to a certain extent. A friend of mine has a CTR and he once had an encounter with a 106 GTI. He said he was pulling away slowly from the GTI, but not as quickly as he thought he would. Think it upset him a little

Depends on car, condition, gear changes etc etc...

I.E SOME 106's can outpace a 2.0 16v Corsa.

Some can't

SOME corsa 2.0 16v can outpace a Type R

Some Can't.

Ive not had an issue with a 1.6 16v Pug/Saxo, but also slightly lost out ona Type R.

So depends on engine, car, driver, and whether the 106 is going downhill......

I know what i ment, i ment that from owning both you can judge which is quicker, one may "feel" quicker but actually isnt.

my 147 bhp gti can pass one, albeit slowly passes it...

so a standard gti would get beaten imo.

a 160 bhp gti would thrash one tho
