No.

£25000 per annum, based on a 48week year is 3571.4 paid hours

that equates to 74 paid hours per week.

Now, as the article says you can get £25,000 with overtime, that would sugegst that overtime is at a better rate; for calculation purposes lets say time and a half.

So a mandatory 40 hour working week would leave 34 hours to find which at time and a half would mean working an extra 22 hours.

Mandatory pay [£7.00 x 40 = £280]
Overtime pay [£10.50 *22 = £231.00]
Gross Pay weekly would be £511.00 so £24,500 per annum assuming no holiday pay; which a large percentage of foreign workers don't get.

Now from first hand experience, Polish, Romanian workers etc put in the effort and hours as they realise the harder they work, the more likely they are to be given the fringe benefits of "overtime" and the more overtiem worked the more they earn.

My girlfriends the manager of a 46 bedroom hotel; at the moment she has 5 romanians, 3 polish, 1 aussie, and 3 british incl. herself iirc

The chef, Domi is a great guy from Romania; he has worked over here for 3 year 47.5 hours per week for 48 weeks per year; he does get holiday pay at basic rate but no overtime, hes just paid hourly. Hes just about to finish and go back hoem as hes paid off his mortgage on a house in a good countryside area at home, raised enough to put his daughter through school and uni and basically work as and when he wants to. However to achieve that hes sacrificed not seeing his daughter grow up for the last 3 years.

There was a polish girl who was head waitress, she worked at least 47.5 hours per week at the hotel and did a further 25hours per week at night UNPAID in a local OAP care home to gain care workers qualifications which she needs to get a VISA to South Africa where he fiance lives. She did that shift pattern for 3/4 years!

incidentally one of he female english workers does 2 days a week as she cant claim her disability benefits if she works over 16hours per week iirc; she forever phones in sick - only wnats to do the easy shifts; ie low check out days. Doesn't help if the restaurant gets busy, won't serve on the bar, just sits there all day moaning!

This story is exactly what Britain is about now. People refuse to do jobs, somone else does it and now people complain that it's immigrants who do the work. It boggles me.
