i have a 1.4 corsa sport in sexy black...bodys pretty sound and engine is sweet as a nut, buttt i want more power and have a good £1k to spend...was thinking of saving a wee bit more and get a c20xe conversion, then i thought maybe x16xe conversion, but may aswell buy another corsa then which has it already

so i have sum options:

1.) X16xe corsa and tune
2.) Just whack a c20xe in it and shut up
3.) sell mine for £1400 add the grand and get summat for £2500??like?
4.) keep the 1.4...lower and style with steinz skirts etc and be happy with 90bhp for another year

5.) pug time (106 gti)

Waste of money tuning a 1.6 unless its for competition use where you want to be in a lower class.

If you can afford bigger, get bigger!

You can buy a X16XE for £200. You say you've got 1.5k to spend?

That'll get you TB's, fitted & mapped off Dave A.

what difference am i gonna see though?

accelleration wise?
powers gonna be a good 150bhp im guessing?
will handle the same, so a plus there

what else could i do other than throttle bodies? inlet (mantzel?,decat, remap, cams, headwork???Etc???)

you'll see atleast 150bhp, yes. Accelleration will be brilliant, will pull & pull all the way to limiter.

If you don't want TB's, get the same spec as i'm going to do, you'll still see 150bhp

its the hidden costs that scare me i think with a c20xe
the 1.6 idea would have the engine straight away in the new corsa and can slowly tune the lump while im buying the exterior stuff i.e skirts, cc; ing and that...i wanna do all the work myself if i can i learn and for the crack. where as i could go buy a better car for £2500 really...i love the tinkering around

what hidden xe cost's?

any modded car's gonna have problems, not just xe's...

also, as your buying a 1.6, the engine may have reliability problems too

doesn't matter how new an engine is, it can still have reliability problem's...

i payed £200 for a old coscast 20xe + brakes, and it was mint, ran sweet as a nut, and never had any problems with it

And then I payed £3k for a T reg sport with 60k on it, then 2 weeks later the headgasket went, then it started to smoke so I changed the rings, then a bolt went into the engine so it needed new pistions, then the bottom pullie went and it needed a new one, and a timing belt kit.

moral of the story?

Doesn't matter how new then engine is, it WILL go wrong.
