Since going to Oz last year for a few weeks i cant get it out of my head that i want to go back to see the rest and also see more of the world backpacking. Its been driving me mad for months.
Today i asked my boss if i could have 3 months unpaid leave and thats a no-go situation.
Im currently financially stable with enough savings to cover the trip, renting(so no mortgage commitments), single and i have to decide whether to stay here in the usual daily regime or give up everything and head off round the world, with the thought of no job/house when i get back and having to crash with parents.
Im a nightmare at making decisions, especially ones this big!!

If you want to do it just go for it, you will only regret not doing it further down the line.

Agreed if you really want it and are in a position to then do it.

Sometimes, I kind of feel ive missed out on this as Ive seen many people do so & have the time of their lifes, That said im doing my own thing in life & working towards a good job, stability, girlfriend etc - I guess you cant do everything all in one life! I see my future being building the family home, getting a dog will be the next step, then god knows what...marriage, kids even so ive promised myself im going to do some nice locations on holiday to compensate for missing out. I really wish id done a year travelling when I was younger, 20/21yrs would be a good age to go travelling imo.

If I was single & didnt have any commitments or anything more important to do with my life I would probably do a bit of travelling before settling down.

Travel is something that has never appealed to me. Yet it contrast, you can't get it out of your mind, so it's clearly a burning desire - go for it, you'll feel better for it and so on.

May be save enough money before you go, for when you return, so you can afford to rent somewhere instantly (if you're that bothered about crashing with the parents) and be able to look for jobs whilst living on your own.

You kind of answered your own question - you have no real commitments what so ever. Go for it.

If you've no commitments, then go for it. If it doesn't work out, at least you've got your parents place to come back too until you get yourself sorted out

On saying all that, I couldn't do it. I can't see me settling abroad, I'd miss my family way too much I'm a home bird at heart

My mate Stephen went to America for 5 months.

He left his girlfriend, his newly done penthouse at Glasgow Quay, a 350z , his family and a Managers Role at Scottish Power Finance dept.

He went to America for 5 months with a Loan of £15,000.

Came back to no house, no car, no job, no gf. I asked him if he regretted it and he said 'I can work hard for money to get most things back, But i cant get younger to do that trip again'.

He is still paying his 15k loan off but smiles every time he see's it on his statement.

Fuck your job, Go to a job search page, theres thousands on there, You'll get one no bother when you get back.

Your family will still be here, What else is there to worry about?

Send your boss a postcard with a pretty picutre on the front and on the back write:

Hey,
Just to let you know im having a great time down under, Hope the office is going well **snigger snigger**. Met lots of new people and shagged a woman who looks just like your wife last week.

anyway, Got to go, Cant hang around too long or i'll get sun stroke.

Kind Regards,
Richard.

P.s It was me who used to piss on the toilet floor, I laughed everytime i done it.

Honestly, Fuck your job mate. Your in a position to do it. You've quite clearly worked hard for the last 6 years.

If he cant cope without you, Tell him your going , And you are willing to come back if he needs you but thats his decision although you are going anyway.

Want me to tell him? Whats his number?

Did you make it clear your prepared to walk completelly if he declines you 3 months leave? Just do it, you'll pick up a new job no bother....do it now instead of working another 6yrs in the same office wishing you had went now!

Do it, I am! I have just got my tickets through the post today infact. I fly into Cairns on the 1st of April.

Just sold my car, handed my notice in at work, and got a bit of cash to take with me. Not enough to last me the full year, but will be doing a few jobs here and there on a working holiday visa.

I went to the USA for the whole of November 07, a spare of the moment thing, packed my backpack, and just flew into New York, landed, got in my hostel and met people no problem. I would like to think I got at least one friend for life out of it, besides some amazing memories.

The thought of experiencing new things and meeting new people alone is getting me very excited. Seriously do it mate, you will have no regrets what so ever.
