Following on from the £7k to £10k thread my mate now wants an S3.
What is there to look out for?
I know that that 2002 on models are 225 bhp standard.
Anything else?
Cheers, Steve.

Water pumps have plastic impellers which tend to break up and cause much expense. Pretty solid cars really, loads of info on audi-sport.net.
For £7k though it will be a rough one, £10k will get a nice enough example.

mpg isnt bad, around 30mpg combined iirc.
Can be remapped to 270/280bhp with ease.

Yeah its a good place to be, its no race car but its comfy and on a motorway its a very capable car. Numb handling but not particularly bad.
Its pretty rubbish tbh Fad, I get about 23 on average but thats just round town and I only really use it on weekends anyway so doesn't really bother me.

Yeah i average about 25mpg in my 225TT.
Its in the high teens around town. On the motorway you can get 35mpg out of it though.

If your journey involves motorways its alot better, just nipping about kills it for me.

Surely this comes down to personal opionion though?
I looked at quite a few options before buying my S3 but it always came out top for what I wanted

i just find it amsing that alot of people rave about going out in a s3 or that there mate has an s3 and its "amazing"
everyone i have driven feels underpowed, with heavy steering that has no feel and doesnt corner without feeling like it will understeer into the nearest solid object
thats driving about 5-7 diffrent cars I reckon
but as you say, thats IMO

Interior is very outdated now too IMO
Ive driven a few myself as was always a big fab, and they are lovely cars but they are a bit boring, expensive to run and maintain (IMO)

I would agree on the performance and handeling, certainly not a class leader but for my daily commute and the odd spirited drive its fine for me

Upkeep and maintenance I think are the main drawbacks, the cars are becoming quite affordable to buy but the running and maintaining are the major drawbacks.

Cheers for the replys guys.
big eck, the interior is just really bad. Doesn't like it at all and i agree.
He doesn't go racing around so it doesn't need to be the best handleing car in the world. Even if i drive it i'll think that it is amazing compared to what i've driven.
