we have a chemical mixing dept at work and all the employees in that department have to have an annual piss test as some of the chemicals can be harmful. i dont work in that dept but sometimes have to go in there so they've decided i need to do a piss test too.
i'm a little concerned about it tbh. they haven't said that they are checking for anything else like drugs and alcohol but i'm wondering if they are allowed to test for that without telling us. if so i might be in trouble.
i've heard of some places testing staff at random to check for drugs and alcohol and sacking people if there is anything present.
anybody know anymore about this?

I'd be suprised if they arn't aloud to check for whatever they want. Especially if your job requires you to be at the top of you game so to speak.

i just thought they had to tell you if they are checking for things like that.
its not a random test either. its a scheduled thing that happens only once a year.

Question is... is it a test to check that people are being dosed up with whatever shit they're mixing OR is it a test to check people are safe and free of drugs, so are allowed to use the equipment. I had a mate who got the sack after a piss test.

they call it health screening. only about 30% of our work force take part. they say its because the chemicals could cause health issues. one bloke got moved out of that dept because they said he had a condition that means he would be more affected if he came into contact with something dodgy.
i'm just worried that they'll say "fuck it, whislt we've got his urine we'll test for other stuff too".

I was offered a boss job a few years ago, was all going great until I had a medical which included a piss test.
Failed for high levels of THC and the job offer was quickly withdrawn 
Quit smoking pot not long after that, didn't want to go through the embarrassment again !

Don't think they are allowed to take a drugs test from you without asking, so this test is probably what it is, a measure to protect your health.

Same for me, but not the boss job.
Im using this as a chance to give up completly. I've only got 4 weeks, muchos water and cranberry juice drinking over the next month methinks...

If your a heavy user I think 4 weeks may be pushing it 
I think I read the best way to clear your system is to exercise and sweat it out although if your a full blown stoner I doubt exercise is something your to used to

Not a heavy heavy user, but was smoking every day (about 3-4, more at weekends).
I play football once a week, serious sweat session 4 weeks is pushing it, but if they do a urine test and bring it up, my mates smoke and obviously I go round their house? (Dunno if that one will work though ). I got 3 weeks plus however long until the medical (to be arranged when I start). Stays in your system the longest unfortunatly.

The bit about your mates wont work, Theres so many variations on how long it takes to leave your system, Ive heard up to 6 weeks, some are even 2 - 3 days. It all depends on how high tech the testing kit they use is, if its a simple dip test then the 2-3 days can apply apparently, but when its more in depth and sent off then it can be traced from weeks ago.

Well have to wait and see. I've not had a drugs test from a medical tbh, but not going to take the chance.
Got 3+ weeks to aid it out of my system job start) plus however long to arrange the medical. It can take up to 3 months (Stays in your hair for around that time).
Why won't the passive smoking part work out of interest? Do you need a direct inhailation of the drug? At worst case, I guess i can say I was a former user as of x months ago but are clean. But tbh, worry about that IF if happens.

I cant remember the reason, but I had a urine test ( dip test) about 5 years ago and I was asking the lady medical examiner if being around people smoking it would affect the result. She came out with some crazy analargy of even if you were in a phone box with 8 people smoking it would not show up. I imagine that there would be a small trace if you were around people smoking it but not enough to show up during a test. A lot of companies uses the dip method which test for all the common drugs and alcohol, its only when it sent off for laboratory examination should you worry about the result if you have not had sufficient time off from smoking. I still smoke it occasionally but feel a lot better now that I dont do it everyday, I remember having bad short term memory and slurring words and stuttering a lot, had some good times though.
