LEaving the professional world and the city to become a country bumpkin working for a smaller firm, but having hands on exposure to lots practially the whole network.

Taking a big hit pay wise (drop), longer hours, no OT pay, no luxery locations to be sent to, so sitting around doing f-all all day.

Self imposed kick up the aris.

Hell im even going to give up smoking green.

These are scarey times. Still, 12 mile commute, against the traffic flow, instead of 27 mile commute, following the traffic, to the worst roads/drivers in the UK.

Exciting and extremly scarey.

At the moment, sit on my backside, go online all day, go home. Sounds fun and easy, but in reality, its horrible. Taken away my drive, ambition etc. Gonna get it all back.

But im a support/mincer at the moment, but i'll be doing admin, servers, networks, possible some SQL, possibly some web design. I'll have exposure to learn again, more hands on, gains muchos skills, become an employee and not just a number in a large corporate firm.

Thats the plan, take the hit now rather than in a few years.

Tom, exactly, if i don;t like it, least im learning new stuff, and can come back to the city if i wanted (but hoping never have to ).

Had my last smoke last night, expecting the hot/cold sweats over the weekend/start of next week. Scarey times.

Have a lot of respect for someone 'giving up' an easy, mindnumbing job like that to actually go out and do something decent with his time.

People always compare salaries, but the fact half of them hate what they do is half the problem.

Nice one

Daimo

I also now work near Maidstone and took a severe pay cut

Much better prospects here and a better quality of life!

Don't listen to Phi, she claims she'll do lunch but she's too busy spamming CS to bother

Cheers apk, i've had it so easy for so long, but was getting fedup of seeing everyone else doing really well working for smaller companies, where-as i'd put in lots of effort, but been screwed over by my current place. Strung along, used as a number, not an employee.

Came a point where enough is enough, no amount of IE browsing makes the day go faster, no drive to work for the firm anymore.

Fresh start, fresh challange, lots of work, but lots of learning for the future.

Jamb, yeah, got some top people i work with, i've got a LOT of perks im going to loose, but really, whats "ooo i've got xyz and earn x amount" if you go to work and hate your job and end up being depressed because of it.

You either hack it, be a machine, do the work, get paid your salary, but never really happy.

Or go to work, enjoy the job, work hard, feel like your making a difference, but get paid less.

I've always smoked green, i just took a break for 3 months last year. But i've got a medical, and unsure if they will include a drugs test in this, so had to stop now (weed lasts the longest in your system, up to 3 months), and going to use this opportunity to give up completly. Now its public, its also another reason not to start again, looseing face
