i had 2 males i had them both out 2 days ago and cleaned them out and filt the food boles up that normally lasts them about 3 days and i went to bring them out tonight
and only 1 of them came to the hatch so i opened up the cage and the outher one was half eaten only the bottom half of it was left with the spine still there the other one had defiantly eaten it

is that normal behaver for rats i got tolt when i bought them it was better to buy 2 of them because they would get depressed on there own

If you lived with someone for 2 years, you'd expect a fight. One obviously took the argument abit too far

I have had rats before there quality pets.
Rats who are not from the same family will kill each other ,like being stuck in a cage with steve you would defo kill him maybe not eat him, rats I have had have always been brothers or sisters as this is what was reckonmend at the shop.

As for now do you get another rat to keep that one company I do not know he sounds like he wants to live alone

ratzrus.co.uk apparently is a good website, girl i work with has two as pets and said thats good for advice.
She also said that rats only tend to live for about two to three years and it maybe that it died of natural causes - then its mate got a little peckish?

its a bit strange that tbh. my mate's mother used to own a pet shop so he knows a thing or 2 about rats, i've just text him and he said he's never heard of that.

i suppose you can get mental rats just like you can get mental humans. just a bit bad having to clean that up in your own home! hope you didn't show your son the remains!

regarding the surviving rat......get a shovel to bash its cannibal head in. or ask chuck norris to roundhouse kick it in the face.

We had the same issues with our 8 chipmunks.

We had the room they were staying in carpet shampood and when it was drying out it made all the chipmunks unwell and gave 6 of them quite a bad respitory disease.

Before we knew it 4 of them had died and were half eaten

i had a rat, he was called rodney he was a dumbo rat, had him for 3 years which is a good lifespan for a rat.

i wouldnt get 2 as they look after each other and are not fussed about human contact, where as 1 will always want attention and be more 'pet like'
