guys, was just doing around 35 in a 30, happily cruising past, look in my mirror, and i've passed a speed camera van! I was driving away from the van, on like a dual carridge way, while it was facing traffic towards it!! As i was driving away from the van, is it caliberated to get cars away from it aswell, or will it just get cars facing towards it? Please help, bricking it.

Was it on your side of the road im lost
If its how im thinking of it and you could see the lens whilst driving away your fine, as i think the equipment works only when your getting closer to it

yeah i was driving away from it! Not driving towards it. Say the van was in front of me, i could only see the front bumper. I wasnt going towards the lenses if you know what i mean. As i went passed it, and looked in the rear view from behind i could then see the lenses! Can it still get me if i'm driving away from it? Or can it be caliberated for only one way?

It will be calibrated for one way but usually going towards it.

not sure what speedo read, but i slammed brakes on when seen it and skidded but it was too late. It was on the otherside of the road facing the traffic the other way. Just need to be certain that it can only get the cars towards it or i will not sleep tonight

30mph on a dual carriageway seems slow.
IIRC the vans can only catch you while you are driving towards you as the equipment is in the back, I don't remember a camera being in the front of them, well not the ones that I have seen.

More than likely IMO mate.
Wouldn't bother ringing the police to ask, they probably won't give you that information.

They normally catch you going towards it, not away.

LOL - u pugster. u crack me up.
why u so worried? its not the end of the world is it?
in answer to ur Q, no, they have to be facing you and they clock u over 2 set distances. If they wanted to do you, they would park on your side of the road.

I got done doing 35 in a 30 a couple of months back. Complete joke if you ask me! Van was parked up at 8.30 on a Saturday morning.
Think i might have got done again over the weekend. Can't remember slowing down for a camera Hopefully i did, just can't remember. Was pasting it around a couple of bends previously. My own fault! Head is all over the place at the minute.

Yeah they can but the camera is generally on the same side of the road. They do not point it across a lane of traffic.

Not as good as my Dad, got done on a motorway bridge by a copper in a black jumper at dusk with a stopwatch over two of those painted blocks. 99.1mph. He said he was lucky, he speedo was well over 3 figures.

The usually work for 10% + 2mph over the speed limit, if you were doing around 35mph on your clocks chances are your alright!
Feel lucky no one crashed in the back of you when you slammed your brakes on !
Seen that happen a couple of times!
