I was driving through a village yesterday afternoon - when entering the village all of the cars driving towards me flashed their lights causing me to slow down in fear of a speed camera in the village.

I turned into the village to see two coppers at the side of the road with a notepad - I drove past them at a nice 20mph and continued through the village. When I got into the village centre, a policeman stood with 3 other officers and a patrol car flagged me down - I presumed for a spot check of tyres/lights/all that crap, however he actually told me I'd been caught not wearing a seatbelt - despite me being 101% that I WAS wearing one, infact the policeman that pulled me up could clearly see me taking my seatbelt off when I stopped the car.

They've got no Photo Evidence, just their word vs mine - and I ended up with a £30 spot fine despite me arguing for a good 20minutes that the seatbelt was on.

They radio'd the coppers down the road who allegedly caught me in the act, and I heard them confirm back that a lad wearing a blue jumper driving a black seat drove past with no seatbelt on. I was wearing a grey jumper, and all of the coppers I was with sheepishly looked at each other saying stuff along the lines of "with slightly tinted windows it's easy to mistake grey for blue...

Anyway, I had the choice of taking the ticket, with 30days to either pay up or contest or getting a court summons there and then, I took the ticket.

It's only £30, with no points on my liscense - in the coppers own words there is no paper trail, and I could get one of these every day of the week and never risk losing my liscense or whatever.

BUT I feel like i've been robbed, I honestly feel violated and i've spent the rest of the weekend just being pissed off about it.

I'm probably not going to contest this - but I'm really, really fucked off that they can either lie £30 out of me or just be so stupid into making such a mistake and I've got no way of proving them wrong.

Would anyone consider contesting this, for £30 I can't see it worth it but I hate to think I've been robbed and they've won

Oh, and there is no way I would EVER drive without a seatbelt purely due to the sickening tone of the warning buzzer in my car if you setoff without it on

£30 is still £30 but is it worth the time and other resources to contest it. Maybe contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau ?

£30 is nothing in my eyes and i'd pay it and forget abou t it, if the same cops try and get you again, thats when i'd contest it.

£30 is nothing, if you contest it you'll have alot of unwanted stress

Yeah I said that there is no way any man alive could drive around with that buzzer going off, but apparently it's far from evidence proving my innocence.

I'll end up paying the £30, however I will be writing to the chief constable and hopefully mention it to the local papers. It won't get my £30 back but hopefully it will piss a few people off behind closed doors and they might think twice about lying about shit like this in future for the sake of £30.

....but I doubt it

I wouldn't be complaining if it was down to my own stupidity - £30 is fuck all for breaking the law, but the point is - I didn't

Yep I think I'm decided on that.

I'll pay the £30 as I can't afford the time/effort or money to piss around in court however i'll write to the Chief Constable and the local paper with my complaints.

Hopefully I'll get some copper a bollocking behind closed doors, alert the public to this crime, cause riots, throw the country into civil war then I'll seek asylum some place sunny as this shithole of an island burns into the northsea

It's £30. Just pay it. £30 is sod all.

I'd pay that just save the hassle.

I'd pay it then argue it, cause if you lose at least the £30 fine won't build up and you end up paying more.

Unlucky on that, I'd be fuming.

what an idiotic thing to say. sorry mate but if they can fine you £30 without any hassle then they could fine you £1000....

would you let some guy take £30 off you in a street for no reason?

Why's it idiotic? Contesting it will just make it worse. then court summons. £30 is bugger all, course I'd contest a grand but £30 is nothing.

It's the principle of it, like Ben G said, I wouldn't let some random bloke in the street take £30 off of me, and the police are just doing exactly that.

The more I think about it, there is no way they could have saw me and not seen a seatbelt. The colour of the seatbelt and my jumper was such a contrast it's impossible for them not to see it.

They're lying and its really, really pissing me off

surely theres no hard evidence... so they wouldnt be able to prove it in court?

not sure how it works, but surely if its your word against theirs, there is nothing to prove you did it? or is it becuase they are police they a believed more?

No I made sure of this, if I hadn't have took it there and then, it would have just come through the post

It's not a confession, paying the fine is a confession - which i've not yet done.
