My gran died just over a week ago, her ashes haven't been scattered yet.
I've been a bit upset that the family are going to scatter them rather than have them buried. I feel we'll have no where to go to place flowers and stuff for her. I've decided that I'd like a tiny wee bit of them to keep in a locket round my neck. My brother thinks this is totally out of order, and that I must have flipped
Do you lot find this disturbing/strange? I thought it would be nice to have her with me all the time

when my gran goes she has asked for her ashes to be buried
my brother has asked for a similar thing to you
but imo i think its better for the ashes to stay together but if your gran would like that then do it.

Its a nice idea, but i dont think its nessacery.. You remember her for the time you spent together, and that will always live on in your memory, you dont need her ashes round your neck. x

You can still have a place to visit if the ashes are scattered.

I've found a nice locket, do you think a jewellers would be able to do something to seal so it would never be able to be opened?

The only problem i see with what you want to do is there will probably be other people that wouldn't want them seperated either
Do you not have something she gave you that you could keep on you at all times?

I would think a jewellers would be a bit funny if you ask them to put a persons remains into a necklace.....might not want to do it etc. Im not sure youd get something like that sealed either, a lockets meant to open. You can get wee things you can unscrew to put stuff in & wear round your neck...ive seen them at festivals you wouldnt want to wear them out tho

Nothing wrong with that imo, both of my grandads have died and their ashes where buried, one in a cemetry, the other in his garden, I like going to the cemetry and having a quiet 5 mins, and the with the other one, I'll go out in the garden and just sit on the wall, having a think about the good times.
Often when ashes are scattered they tend to be in places the person liked to be, because of this though that can mean that they are quite a distance away. If they are close, then you could still go to the place quite often, although if it's far you're obviously more restricted. I think if someone's ashes where to be scattered far away, I would like to be able to keep some somewhere so I could still feel that I could be near them
Definately not flipped tho

Ive got my grandfathers gold watch, he died when I was 4 so I didnt really get to know him, my granny waited until I was 21 to give me the watch as it had been his wish it went to me. Its an old man style watch & I very rerely wear it but its still nice to know I have something to remember him by. Maybe when your mums clearing the house she will find something close to your gran that you can have to keep the memories alive?

its a hard time for you atm jade, losing your gran is always difficult. you dont need to do anything monumental to remember her though. best bet is to spare a thought a day for her and remember the laughs you shared together. i'm not sure carrying a piece of her around with you would be the best way to get over your loss. just my opinion though.

Jade, will there be a plaque in the memorial garden in the local cemetary?
That's what we did after scattering my Dad's ashes 300 miles away at the top of a mountain
