On Friday, woke up with a bit of swelling just under my right ear, bit painful when I ate. Few hours later the left hand side started to hurt too.
Popped into uni anyway on Friday, so made an appointment at the doctors for today.
Woke up Saturday in lots of pain, but that went within the hour so I just carried on as normal.
Went in to the doctors today to be told I have mumps!!
Its apparently highly contagious, and I would have been contagious for around 4 days before the swelling appeared - I had an exam on thursday, in a room of approximately 500 people
So now, I've been told to minimise contact with people, so I'm sat in my room, revising more but very bored

Robin I know, and I actually went into a revision lecture at 2 pm today, and left early at 2.30 to go to the doctors.
He advised me not to go back and finish the lecture

Did he have swollen balls Jade?
I'm lucky tbh, I only have the slightly swollen salivary glands, and no other symptoms, some can be very nasty!

The thing that worries me though:
According to the NHS Direct website, mumps has an incubation period of 14-21 days, and then 4 to 5 days before any symptoms become apparent.
From that information, I contracted it somewhere between Xmas and New year, and will remain infectious until Wednesday or Thursday.
Just a very long time IMO.

True Mike, although to be fair I doubt it - it is passed on through saliva contact (didn't kiss anybody during the exam ) or through coughing or sneezing - I didn't do either, so it should be fine.
Also, only those who haven't been immunised can contract it - I had the MMR, but didn't have to booster a couple of years ago.
