Can you 'mirror' your no claims?
Reason being is I hate using my car for work (100 miles a day) as it's suffering badly, proved by having blown up on Monday...
So I was looking into getting a little 1.2 or something, and just use my white one at the weekends. But insurance is coming out stupid (online prices admittedly). £1400 TPFT on a 1.2. I pay £500 less than that on a modified 1.4 (FC too)? £1400 is the best price I've got.
So can I use no claims twice? That'd help things. I just want to insure a 1.2 as bare minimum really. TP only, highest excess possible to bring it down as I'm not gonna claim on it. I know it can only get so cheap but I was expecting £70 - £80 a month, not £140!

You cannot use no claims twice.
If you phone a company and ask they may however mirror them yes.

Guess doing insurance quotes will be easier when phoning, just been too busy to spend hours on the phone. Cheers.

Yeah but you have a nice new engine which you can rely on, work have been fine about me taking the week off, but I can only take the piss so much
Plus hard doing things to it when I have to drive it again within a few hours!

Admiral gave me 2 years introductory NCB on my 2nd car when I took out a Multi car policy, paying £1000 a year for me 21, 3 and half years driving 2 years NCB and my GF 20, 1 year driving no NCB. Both insured on both cars, found it a good price to be honest.

I hadn't even thought of a multi-car policy. Nice one, I'll look into that!

When I first tried they told me I couldnt use my NCB twice, was pissed off then as it shot the price up, rang up again and said is there no way I can use the NCB twice and she went away and spoke to the manager and it works like, after the year with them il have 3 years NCB on one car, and 1 year NCB on another car, but if I insure with them come renewal time il have 3 years NCB on both cars
So make sure you make the point that it is possible as I was almost fobbed off

Its not worth the fuss mate, I concidered this, but get the engine working in the 1.4 and then use it.
Yes you have to insure two cars, but you have to tax them both, MOT them both etc etc.

Aye I know it's not worth it atm mate, but I was talking about once it's 2 litred?
I just don't fancy putting the kind of mileage on the 2 litre that I've put on the 1.4 (17,000 miles since April, only been at this job since September)

Does the rest of the car not get proper shitty though, it's not just the engine that'll suffer London Roads every day! E.g. The rust spots on my bootlid have come up proper bad like acne, just where it's constantly wet through winter! I just dunno what to do, I hate seeing it slowly detiriorate
And driving it at work isn't fun, drivers going within inches of it, already been broken into as I guess it's a 'targetable' car

The cost of running a second car far outweighs the expense of putting miles on your first one.
You need to insure both cars - the 1400 is already 900, a 1200 will probably come in around 600 if they match the bonus. That is 1500 quid.
You then need to tax them both - a futher 160ish? on top of what you already pay.
Then they both need MOTing and they may both have problems. Just because you bought another car because the first one broke doesn't mean the commute-mobile won't fail you either.
Work out the costs properly, then weight up what it would cost to just get yours running right. You could probably hire a car while yours is getting fixed for less than it will cost to purchase and run a second. The British driving system does not accomodate multiple vehicles very well.

Just put an XE in it and enjoy it, maybe think about a second car if your planning a full rebuild of the whole car but I wouldn't bother with the hassle of a second car just becuase its a 2l
I used my XE everyday for 18 months doing a 70 mile round trip.

Well, you certainly know how to piss on a bonfire
But to be fair, you've made a very valid point, especially about hiring another car, it's not that expensive but thinking about it, wonder if they'd do it for a 19 year old?
Either way you've put me off getting another car.
Fair point too Ian W. I just always see people in Modifications and Advice saying "XE is broke" or "XE is poorly" etc

Let go whilst driving along. Going to examine fully when it's out, but it's bottom end. Watch the videos on the 'What a night' thread', it didn't even start properly and you can hear the rattles

New engine, but the same one. Getting it in the morning at 11, getting up at 8 or so to get the current one out. Spent the whole of today getting hold of an engine crane. Bought one to save me hiring again when it gets 2 litred

Just read the thread now and you project thread sounds good. I wish I kept it and put a 2litre in it would have finished it of nicely. Have you got the speedo and rev counter working good?

That might be difficult, in which case you could buy another car, SORN yours and move the insurance over, then sell the runabout and re-tax and re-insure yours after its sorted.
Buy one, use it instead of yours, sell it is still cheaper than run both. I'm only telling you because I know from experience. Extreme example but my Corsa costs 180py to tax and 400 to insure and I did about 200 miles. If I wanted to pay £2.90/mile I would have bought a Range Rover. Could probably get taxis for less tbh.
