My mum and dad currently have a westie, a few weeks back my friends dog had puppies..only thing is they are american pitts . But the mum and dad are both very friendly and have been brought up well. What do you think the westie aged 4 and the pup would be like together? also my gf has a 2 year old girl which it would be around. The dog will be a pet and also a guard dog at work, but will sleep at home

illegal.

You sure they are true american pits?

They are great dogs if in the right ownership, but as with any dangerous dog no matter how calm you think it is should never be left around a young kid.

it would only be near the kid when i was in the room, yes both the mother and father are american and there is copys of certificates from them. Am more worried about it sleeping in the same room as my folks dog

TBF, I wouldn't even risk it, even supervised, unless I could be 100% sure the dog wouldn't do anything, which I couldn't.

but if its brought up right from a pup which it is then its only like any other dog. I would lock it up in unit as night but i fear this may make it bad.

As long as the child and dog are kept apart I don't see any harm. Its down to the supervising adults to make sure this happens at the end of the day.

If its brought up around the other dog from a pup then it'll be fine with it. Its only when they arent really around other dogs that they can get arsey - but this is all dogs not just specific to this breed.

I'd see no problems aslong as you are around it with kids.

yeh i agree mark but id prefer to get her used to the girl . The reason for this is i dont want the dog to get out one day come charging in and think the girl is a doll, if its been introduced from a puppie then i can see there been a problem.

Thats why they need to be introduced as you say. Let the dog observe that the child will always be there with you like other family members etc. Of course the dog can still get jealous when affection is shown though.

Children are intrusive and dogs are defensive, regardless of breed, its an incident waiting to happen

She is as soft as anything, but due to her size and how loud her bark is most people tend to shit themselves
