my cousin who is the same age as me (19) and works at ford's with me has said he was buying a focus st, then a bmw convertible and now a range rover sport.

he's already been for a test drive in one, going to cost £47000 and he will still have £20000 to pay off after 3 years...

bearing in mind he earns less than me as i'm an advanced operator earning 29.5k a year, how likely is it that this is true?

he also says insurance is only £2000 a year.

what engines are in these? i can't see the truth to be honest. he drives an 04 plate 2.0fsi audi a3 at the moment and is paying 2.5k insurance on that.

No offense, but WTF does a 19 year old need a Range Rover for?

Seems like hes just buying the biggest, most expensive thing he can think of to show off.

Think of all that money towards a house......

i wouldn't buy one either, i'm waiting for the new focus st to come out which is less than half the price of the range rover.

i just can't see how/why he would want one and how the hell he's going to pay for it

I'll just say if he does buy one, he's got far more money than sense.

In fact very little sense at all

A guy in a nearby town had a Range Rover Vogue for his 1st car, aged 17/18. Granny won the lottery & bought it outright for him. I could think of better ways to splash 50k-odd.

I dont see why your cousin would want to buy one, only way I can see him affording one would be through a car lease scheme. Daft idea if your spending all your money on a car thats not actually yours

To buy it is perhaps £800pm, to least probably less.

If I didn't have a house or any cares I could probably afford that. So long as he is grossing more than it costs to buy and run, so can he.

I can't see him having much money for anything else, or indeed anything to show for that outgoing by the time it has depreciated, but its certainly not impossible.

I don't think insurance will be that daft, these are not boy racer cars that get crashed a lot. Perhaps the largest statistical risk to ownership would be theft, but being in a good area would adjust that.

Loads of Range Rover Sports in York, I can't imagine it being the same one I keep seeing as they'd have to get around! Saw one this morning actually and commented to my Dad that it will probably never see dirt!

Few people have work have them - I think they look good actually, but they use them to drive off-road to building sites etc.

Still get people whinging about them, including the secretaries who know they get used off road

I can see the benefit of a car like that and they're not all that bad off road.

I would have an orange one personally - http://www.landrover-g4-vehicles.com/range_rover_sport.htm
