There's a gale blowing and very heavy rain here right now, our street has stuff strewn all over it. My mum works for the local council, they issued a weather warning to staff today, looks like they got it right for once
The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for south west to westerly severe gales from 9pm on Tuesday 8th January until 3pm on Wednesday 9th January. This includes the Central Lowlands.
It will feel very windy with average speeds of 40 mph and gusts of up to 75mph expected, especially in exposed locations.
Disruption is possible to travel in the morning rush hour and you are advised to take extra care.
Winds should gradually ease from the west later on Wednesday morning.
A period of heavy and persistent rain is also forecast from 7 to 10pm this evening.
Updates on this will be made on radio and television weather and travel bulletins during this period.
