What happens when flywheel lightening on a Vauxhall XE/LET goes wrong.

I cant quite believe how much of the gearbox is missing :shock:

Yes, spinning a 10kg lump of iron at 4000rpm+ is going cause quite a bit of damage when it lets go.

How do you know it was home made? Probably just overlooked using ARP bolts over standard items.

I heard about a flywheel doing that on a Nissan cabstar but it was a standard flywheel

The engine is under the seats too, apparently part of it missed the driver by inches Come up through the back of his seat and through the roof

I think you will find its nothing to do with a lightened flywheels or home made anything.
If you read the post from when this happened years ago, its because they used a heavy sprung paddle clutch on a standard 100k mile flywheel.

thats why I always use a new flywheel when building an expensive engine or at least get the old one crack tested.

Im running a lightened fly with a spring paddle clutch and standard cover and fly bolts, lol. Supposedly the standard fly bolts are bullet proof though.

Or re-used the old bolts.
Flywheel bolts are use once, very high tensile steel.

Or just due to it being an old fly, probably covered in cracks.
