Do you get less petrol consumption in winter than you do in the warmer months?
Seem to be going to the petrol station far more often since the cold weather has set in, put £15.00 in the other day and only got just over 90 miles out of it before the light was flashing at me, when normally that would do at least 100.
With the cold starts in the morning and drving with a cold engine, just wondering if that was t blame, or if it could be something else

Less fuel for your £15 might also have something to do with it.

it could be cooler engine means higher flash point on petrol i belive
also prices of fuel have gone up

the car will burn more fuel if the air is cold
knock sensor will advance timing slightly and sensors will request slightly more fuel

Yeah if you spend over 50 quid I think, we get shopping delivered everyweek and one of those with it so when im not getting petrol from dad i use them
But think you can get them instore too.

i agree that there will be more fuel burnt but also more air and codl air is denser so more power? like with a turbo, more air/fuel mixture in = more power out. obv colder air isnt going to give turbo like changes but it IS denser, and so can hold more fuel vapour...more bang for you buck?
or am i talking twaddle?

There was a guy on the radio before who said he wasnt going to be affected by the petrol price increase because he always puts £10 in 
So i guess its the same for him in winter

I noticed a slight drop in fuel economy a few weeks ago, gone back up now though

I was speaking to a friend of mine last night and he said that he told his dad that he was pleased at the fact that petrol in some places is only just under £1 his old man just laughed at him
Some people (aka Norry) claim the VAT back on their petrol so its only costing him like 84p a litre!!!! lucky mofo

not so much the knock sensor on baisc engines more to do with air to fuel ratio. Cold air more dense thus more fuel required. More advanced engines will get the added benefit of the knock sensor adjusting timing

I've started doing this, carry 1's and 2p's in my car so can pay exact, gets rid of them.
I also did the same Danny, wondered why my fuel consumption had gone up, all adds up now its about 10p dearer than it was.

I've got a digital MPG meter, and I've dropped to 29 from about 31 since the clocks went back.
I blame the fact that I'm sitting in traffic more because there are a lot of idiots that can't drive at night!

With the cold weather, you may also get a bit more condensation, and it'll take longer to burn off, under the oil cap
