Gimmic to get as many pupils as possibly.
Granted, its a rather expensive gimmic and the Instructor will become worse off (Financially and probably the condition of the car too).
I rememeber when the MINI was released seeing loads of Coopers as Learner cars.

i understand its to attract youngster to learn with them, but i dont think it will quite balance out like that

Instructor probably wanted one, and that was a good way to get one and probably with a discount, so he can hoon around when not on lessons and he's not paid full wack for it or something.
And also the extra business it will bring.

Dean, you really think a first time drive won't ride the clutch?
And how many first timers do you think an instructor has in a week/month?

There used to be a MK5 Fiesta Zetec S around here.
There is currently a previous shape Civic Sport learner car around here - how big is that to learn in?
I asked my driving instructor how much the insurance was on his MK6 5 door Fiesta 1.25 LS, he said about £400 for the year. Bargain imho.

I have seen a people carrier learner car before. I assumed its for teaching mums with familys how to drive if they are going to be having big cars from the word go
