Right ok, at work yesterday in the after school club, the kids were sitting round table eating and talking about father christmas and what they will be getting for christmas. There was about 5 of them all aged 3-4, there was also a parent there who works in another department at the school, and her 8 year old son was there.

The kids were just talking and one of them says 'Father Christmas doesn't exist'. This is coming from a 4 year old. So i said 'well he still comes to my house', then one of the other teachers said the same and so did the parent. We asked him who brings the presents then and he replied 'my daddy brings them, Father Christmas isn't real'. We then asked who told him that he' not real and he said his dad.

The parent that was there was fuming because her 8 yeear old is already questioning whether or not he is real and the parent said it is his last christmas where he will believe in him. She is now talking about making a complaint because she feels he has ruined it for her son and possibly the other children who were there.

Anyway, when his dad came to pick him up i asked if i could have a quick word. I explained what had happened and his dad just laughed. This made me maddd cos i didnt really think it was very funny. I explained that at the school we respect all religions and understand the different beliefs that people may have, and regardless of the children's religions or beliefs, they all believe in Father Christmas. He quickyl said it wasn't for religious reasons and he told him he's not real because he doesn't believe himself.

I then explained that he's a grown man and shouldn't believe in Father Christmas but every child in our school does. I said that we have Father Christmas coming in neext week to bring the children some presents and that if he chooses for his son not to believe in him then maybe he should stay at home and not participate when he comes to visit because i don't want him ruining it for all of the other children.

His father agreed to keep him at home that morning.

We have a problem almost every day with this particular dad. He pretty much interrogates his son when he comes to pick him up to find out if anythings happened. He's a really difficult man to deal with.

Is it reasonable that i asked for him to stay at home so he doesnt spoil it for the other children? or completely out of order?

I personally think its a shame because I feel as though he might be missing out a bit? All the other kids are so excited about Father Christmas but his dad has told him he's not real

opinions pleease because there is going to be a big fuss at work when Father Christmas comes to visit

Father christmas of course he exsists.

My little sister is now 10 and she is slowly growing out of it all, she knows he doesnt come to the house, but she still thinks that he has a ruling, that if she is naughty he'll tell mum and she wont get any

TBH you should send all the other kids home and only allow this one, as he is the only one speaking the truth.

Stupid foolish, selfish sod. He's basically blocking his childs right to be a child and enjoy the magical things

Sounds like he's one of those people where there's no talking to them. Sometimes you just have to admit defeat with people like that imo.

I don't necessarily think it's fair the kid has to stay at home but can see why you have done it

Even though i agree with your actions, it's a little harsh on the kid. He's a little shite for telling the other kids santa isn't real, but he's only young, it's not his fault.

By him being told to stay at home is punishing him, when in reality he's done nothing wrong. Tough situation.

I like the fact that the father's excuse was that his son didn't believe because he didn't That's almost as if he assumed you all thought it was real

I would have done the same TBH, seems a shame to let one kid ruin it for the others. I'd be annoyed if my nieces and nephews had it ruined for them by some random kid.

Indeed, kids should enjoy being kids as long as they can, there's far too many ocassions where kids have to grow up too quikcly these days

Whilst I do agree with you Tom, I think at 10 their must be something mentally wrong with you if you think santa is real.
