Looking at getting a golf next, first fancied the mk3 VR6 but now i like the mk4 v6 4motion
what are people's views on these cars? I know they probably wont be as quick as my old S3 but both are considerably cheap to insure for a 20yr old and i would think theyre better on the juice too.
REALLY want an R32 but i cant stretch to that sort of money just yet and insurance is a fair bit more
Some examples ive seen..
4motion R32 lookie-likie - Genuine bodykit and genuine anniversary wheels

Nice looking VR6 with 75k on the clock

VR6s are rubbish.
R32s are rubbish.
Buy a 4motion. Lovely little car.

The 4mo has a MUCH better engine, 4wd and is a newer car.
The VR6 will be quicker.
I'd have the 4mo.

Doesn't the 4mo have the same engine and running gear as the R32, but looks totally pap?

Cheers for the input!
Im swaying towards the 4mo due to me liking my creature comforts, climate control, electric everything etc.. and id imagine it'd be a more refined ride.
The 4wd system and chassis is the same as the S3 and R32 i believe. Not expecting it to be totaly rapid but i bet they do shift..
any ideas on the gearbox? are they 6spd??
Anyone got one/owned one? whats the mpg like?
Cheers

The R32 has wider track and different suspension arms for different camber etc, but I doubt you'd notice the difference day to day.

ah right!
it'l be my daily driver so im looking for a comfy car.
ive also heard the slo-motion name used before, i think people just think they're a poor-mans R32 and feel anything less than the best is shite, which is often the case amongst car 'enthusiasts'

I wouldnt think they would use much less petrol than you s3 if at all tbh. Unless the S3 has been tuned etc?

I drove an R32 last year and loved it.
Very torquey, but not the fastest thing on the planet. Felt really planted to drive, and the interior was excellent. I'd have one. It's not all about how fast it goes....

its the top of the randge car in the sporting class, it has to be imprssive in some way, to me, and all of the techs i know that have driven one (svm used to be a vw tech btw) i found them very disspaointing and vastly overated
