How long do you reckon they go on for.. the 1.4 16vs..

I'm tempted to buy one but got pretty high mileage..

106k...

(don't want a argument about whether its high or not but i think its pretty high..)

Its been serviced n that quite a bit..

But in peoples experience when do they completely go...

cause i dont want to buy it then the engine fucking up..

So you reckon i should just go for it..

Been serviced and that a bit i think.. and im an apprentice engineer mechanic/welder/whatever.. so learning stuff every day.. and have people i work with to help me out. if shit hits the fan..

Not that much for a new engine anyway..

And whats most that will need doing? pistons and main bearings...

Gaskets I should imagine too. Whether it has a record of it or not, get the cambelt done as well.

Yeah, headgaskets fuckers on the 16v ecotechs ain't they?

mate just got charged something like £500 for getting his done..

because they had to take cams off etc and re dial them in n shiiite.

The cambelt got changed when he got it.. year and a half ago.. how often should they be changed?

No idea, but he has probably ragged it tbh - I would probably get it changed.

I know the headgaskets are more expensive on the 16v's. My mechanic said they were a pain, when I had a scare on my 12v.

Highly dependent on how often/well its been looked after.
You could rag an engine to death if hardly any miles tbh.

Mine's had a new headgasket set, cambelt and rollers done altogether recently, along with a new radiator and oil + filter. Which is probably why it runs so well

the answer is 107k is high yes but on the grand scheme of things not that high, just give it a good service and should last for a lot longer!!!
