Yesterday we had a armed patrol boat escort, today we are being buzzed by armed black choppers :/ some dude sitting side saddle with a rifle

There were a couple of hostile boardings on some rigs nearby the other day too...

The boat is on DefCon 4

ISPS level 3 or someshit actually

Welcome to the delta :/

we're supplying a couple of fully bullet proof wheel house patrol boats over there soon, immense kit, but the reinforcement to make the wheelhouses bullet proof is so heavy!

People portray Nigeria to be one of the dangerous places in the world. Once inside its not actually that bad.

You can be sitting in a bar, when 2 blokes pick you up and say something along the lines of "come on then - your turn this time"

Go with them, stay at their place or whatever until the companies pay them the cash they want.

You're no good to them dead, hence why you rarely hear of people being killed. Easy cash gain for them.

Agreed.

I was there in the 80's (in Sapele) and NO AMOUNT of money would tempt me back there.

And that goes for everybody that was expat with my dad under the same contract.

Well,

IME the 'pesky' locals would shoot you in the head for your watch/rings/car and drag you into the bush never to be seen again.

Going out after dark was simply a no no....and God help you if you got on the wrong side of some sort of tribal elder

The best advice we were given (after numerous roadblocks and cars being taken at knifepoint - my dad nearly had had his arm off with a machete) was:-

Ram the roadblock and head as fast as you can to the police station, if you are lucky there wont be a corrupt officer on at the time...at least that way you can bribe (dash) him some niara to keep you safe.

I guess matters have improved greatly in 20 years then

Never again for me.

Yeah,

A bloke we knew over there had a car accident and went through the windscreen.....200+ stitches in his face with no anaesthetic.

Nice.

The only 'up' point of that incident was that he got burgled a few days later....and the 'christians' that tried to burgle him walked out of the house after seeing the state of his head

Sounds fucked up tbh.

There are two continents/countries that I would be bothered to visit.

India/Pakistan etc & Africa.

I think Adam's been kidnapped

He hasn't emailed me all morning....
or he's maybe just ignoring me

I think that's more likely....I don't know why anyone would want to kidnap him
