I decided to call it quits with my then girlfriend. A couple days later, I realized I thought I made a mistake, and tried to get her to take me back. She believed she wasn't good enough for me, so we decided to keep it as friends. Later on she changed her story to 'I don't think that you wanted to really be with me.' which was partially untrue. I still love her to death.
Fast forward to about a month afterwards and I find out she pretty much immediately started talking to her ex before me, mainly because 'she felt bad for him because he was going through a hard time and had no one that cared for him'. I talk to her about it, and confront her about the situation and she said 'If what you're asking is that if we are dating, yeah we went on a couple of dates'.
Normally I'd be okay with this, but there are two things that really piss me off:
1. The guy is total scum. She badmouthed him whenever we were together, and seemed to always come up in conversation.
2. When we broke up, she said 'I think I might just give up on this whole relationship thing. Just don't tell me for a while if you start going out with anyone. It'll just hurt too much'
I pretty much told her off and that she is wasting herself with him, and no one at our company respects him and now her because of her association with him. I said I didn't want to talk to her or see her ever again. I told her that she might as well continue fucking him, and I don't want to see or hear about it. I wished her good luck and was on my way.
The next day I felt bad about telling her off, and went over her apartment to just let her know if anything really bad happens, that I'm there. Lo and behold, the ex bf is there. No one answers the door, so I walk away... which I think worked in my favor. I don't think she knows that I knew he was there when I knocked on the door and she didn't answer. She wanted to talk to me at work to return a gift that I gave her a while back, so I talked to her and refused to take it back... but also mentioned that I had stopped by that afternoon just to 'wish her good luck' The look on her face was priceless.
I have to say when she again saw me at the fair tonight when I was with my friends and she was with her then ex now current boyfriend she kinda freaked. I had already seen her once before without her seeing me, so I was already prepared and just had a nice smile on the next time we crossed paths. I don't even think the guy even knew I was there. They amazingly disappeared soon after that.
My main question is when will the pain end for me? I just get that kicked in the nuts, adrenaline filled chest/stomach ache whenever I think about them, and what we had together. Should I just cease all contact even though I want to talk to her? We work at the same store, but I will be quitting soon (because of her and other things). I just had gotten over the pain of breaking up... and I feel that she has totally ripped open the healing wound and stabbed it repeatedly with a salty knife. If she was with another guy, I wouldn't mind as much, but I can't help think that she was always thinking about her ex instead of me.
