this guy has been in touch about swapping for my astra gsi
i like it, i like it a lot, but the identity thing is bugging me, should it of not been re-registered as the same age car?
i think its a re-shell as its reg'd as a 1.8
im so uncertain, my dream car is an escos
ive also been offered 2 imprezas and a 400+ bhp saphire cosworth
all in 1 day, its been nearly a month f advertising up till now without any replies

dont touch it, will be bar stool to get rid of, as 99% of people who buy escort cossies are enthusiasts, and they want the real deal!

that cant be legal, otherwise all the chavs out there would be re-registering cars as 1.0 for the "cheap insurance"

I wouldn't buy it, it's one of those cars that you NEED to buy genuine, or you're just asking for trouble.

What the hippy said basically, there are sooooo many Escos dogs out there and its clear he is having problems selling it on.
Reg's as a 1.8 sounds a big dodgy as the the cossie shell was unique compared to the rest of the escort line up (sierra floor pan etc)

Don't see why the insurance should be any cheaper as that 1.8 registration is incorrect.
I can see that it would have to be re-registered if there was any question over its identify but in that instance it would go on another plate appropriate to its year of manufacture or if this couldn't be determined it would go on a Q.
98/R reg for a 94/95/96 car is a very unusual thing for the DVLA to do, if the supporting documentation is genuine of course. I've certainly never heard of a car coming out looking newer under any circumstance. You can't even register a kit car that you built from bits as new if any of the major components are not new, so I'm unclear how you would do it with an entire car.

yeah, i mulled that one over for a while.
i always thought it would get allocated another reg from the same year it was built,
it could have been built from a motorsport shell, but why would the guy lie if it had, could of been late registered but again,...why lie
i think there is something very dodgy about it, and the fact he's using 3names and wants £2000 more than the advertised price is very strange.
thaks for your opinions folks
its a ringer

sorry to be narrow minded and negative but im saying its stolen or a genuine cosworth was stolen and used on a 1.8 escort.
most cars like that are sold within a community of car thieves and general chavs, this bloke probably got it knowing it was stolen/hot and now doesnt know anybody who will have it off his hands and is using the net as a last attempt

Even if it were built from a new shell, you would need new major components (engine, box, rack, axles, etc.) in order to register as a new car.

bit of a weird one
Its clearly a late car, but ive never heard of the ID theft beeing done in that way where the car is re-registerd, tis strange
car looks clean, but personally for that ££ would pass on it still
cant see how its cheap insurance, as its still as cosworth, r reg or not ?

yeah good spot JR
it is a dodgy one,
and fad, im a member of the RSOC with the RS1600i i aint really looking for one as i couldnt afford one in the condition i'd like
it got offered to me so i thought about it, but now, im against it,
defo a strange one last reg'd cossies were at P-reg (only a few) and i have seen one X-Reg built from all new parts,
but this, is just strange, i immediatley thought it had been late registered but upon readin the description and it being reg'd as a 1.8 i thought it was wierd,
looking at Picture1 its clear to see the wheel sits further back in the arch than its supposed to, i personally think its been made up,
the fact there isnt a far out engine shot verifies that for me,
if it WAS re registered, the chassis number would have provided the DVLA/VOSA with the age so it would have been reg'd on the original age,
