Some are real - there are a couple with history - most are not, but they are generally as good as, if not better than, the original.
You do not need to pay to take pics, but it is tough to get decent ones due to the number of people there - if you check http://cncpics.com you will see all of the pics, rather than the edited highlights.

Every Saturday of the year at 6:30 in the morning !
Take a wander through cncpics.com - thats the archive of the last 6 months or so.
I do not manage to get there every week, sometimes work or home life intrudes a tad, but generally I am there most weeks.
I'll post weekly updates until you ask me to stop....
