In Fifa 08 there are announcements throughout the game saying "We do not tolerate racism in football"

Is there really any need for it to say that

Im not racist, so it wouldn't really cross my mind anyway, but what is that warning for? Do people tackle people of another race with the square button instead of X? If so is that reallt where the problem lies?

I think it's pathetic

(I know this is about a game, but it's not really a video game issue, it's more of a socialogical question)

Yeah, they have a set script thing (not sure if this is from the FA or what) that gets read out during the majority of games at half time. Have heard similar things at CL games and during domestic cup games.

In Fifa97 on the PlayStation you could have fights in training mode using L2 and R2 - I bet you can't even do that anymore. . .

Other sports dont have the problems with rascist abuse that football suffers from.

In Britain the problem is pretty much gone- I havnt heard any blatent rascism ina football ground for years - but it used to be terrible.

Europe is still shocking though and thats why uefa and fifa are pushing the anti rascism campign so much.

One of the reasons the premiership has so much investment is because it is clean of violence and rascism - so big companies will happily put their name on the line and sponser english clubs....... they will not do this to italian, spanish, french clubs

Hence - The emirates stadium ect

most other sports dont provoke the same emotional involvement that football does. Still no reason though.

I havent seen any proper racism for a long long long time now, and that is partly down to the FA and the clubs taking such a hard stance on it.

I think a lot of Rugby Union and League fans would disagree with you on that one

Out of interest can anyone think of any other sport that has the same percentage of wanker fans as Football?

I dont watch any other sports close enough to see what their fans are like.

But football is bound to attract the wackos as is so popular. Sports with smaller fan bases are more dedicated fans rather than people going along with the masses as some fottie fans certainly are.

Its the same in any example of popular things, like forums. Some smaller corsa sites wont have many if any complete knobs, where as because this place is the largest it attracts them.

no, but then I don't know many other sports that are national sports that developed from working class areas (as in proper working class back in the days of big factories) Rugbys roots are the totally different, major factor imo.

Can you think of any other sport which has a world wide fanatical following comprising all aspects of society -- working class, unemployed, millionaires, criminals, judges.... football has the biggest and most broad following and its global.

Pakistan national cricket team -- they are followed by a large number of violent idiots.

Ice hockey has some tasty fans involved over in canada especially.

But no - your right football has alot more..... but football also has loads more decent fans than any other sport...

There are more people attending football games than any other sport so of course you are going to get more nice people and more nasty people.

I never really saw rascism or violence at football grounds as footballs problem- its societies problem .

Violence and rascism may have been pushed out of top english stadiums- but those people still exist - they just cant afford to go to the games any more so they are being viloent and ignorant somewhere else.

thats not strictly true IMO. I just think that the zero tolerance from clubs and the FA means they are now either banned from the top stadiums or manage to keep their mouths shut at games.

Thats also another reason why English clubs still have trouble in games away in Europe, as those same people can get in those grounds and dont have to keep quiet as much.

Thats kind of what I was trying to say -- the problem is still there- but its been silenced within our top grounds ... that is why I aplaud an ongoing anti rascism, anti violence campaign.
