its capable of that due to its fly by wire system, all they have to do is set its height and the plane does the rest
heres what happens when you stick a pilot ina fly by wire plane when they just came out and noone had much experience
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kHa3WNerjU
he got climb rate mixed up with set alt

the pilots would have been trying to lift the plane using the control sticks, but they didnt realise they had alt set which overides the manual controls, in a FBW plane, in a boeing its different, pulling the yokes back would have induced climb into the plane.
The problem was lack of training on a revolutionary new flight control system

that air france airbus crash is very well documented.
It was at an airshow and there were only 3 people on board. The plane crashes due to pilot error.

The pilot was doing a high angle of attack low speed pass to impress the crowds. He was below 50ft so the aircraft assumed he was landing you can here the engines throttle up just as it hits the tree line as the pilot tries to regain control.

That's what happens when you over engineer something, i'd rather have a capable pilot than a plane that is essentially being flown by a computer programmer.

That's not really the kind of plane you fuck about in.
A while ago somone did that in a similar aircraft. Autoland kicked in. Plane ends up in trees, oops.

listen to all the twats in the crowd going "whooo hoooooo ooohhhhhh" etc in high pitched voices. wouldnt be doing that if a crash and resulting explosion covered them in aviation fuel and they watched the flesh burning of each other, dumb fucks.
and LMFAH64APACHE @ all the "bedroom pilot" comments posted on that page, losers

You are confusing fly by wire with auto pilot.

I know what he's on about. He's talking about auto pilot. Fly by wire is a way of replacing heavy hydraulic components with light weight electronic components to actuate the control surfaces of an aircraft. You also integrate electronic assistance to prevent the pilot from being able to cause damage to the aircraft by using the control surfaces incorrectly like when American Airlines Flight 587 crashed in New York.

fly by wire system is also a completely different computer, and controls. Auto pilot and fly by wire essentially integrate into the one computer
iv read extensive manuals on flight sim
