this is going to cause so much trouble with little shits trying to get cigs, I think its a good idea personally.
No doubt there will be a large portion of under 18 year olds still able to get them over the counter but whatever measures that are put in place to stop people from purchasing/trying cigs is an excellent step forward imo.
Thoughts?

doesn't matter, if you are under 18 as of today you shouldn't be sold smoking materials.

Yeah definately good, however i'm sure parents etc will still buy there kids fags.
TBF this angers me, because will live in a such a nanny cultured state and were loosing sooo much freedom.
Its similar to the "under 21" thing in clubs now. I turned 18 this year, however 90% of place i go turn you away if your not 21 whether you have ID or not.
shitty morning

I dont agree actually.
If kids want cigs they are going to get them, what about the 16 and 17 y/o's that smoked before?
This is justmaking more work for shopkeapers and coppers.

they are grouping it up with buying booze, both drinking and smoking excessively can lead to death. Even if it does make more work for shop keepers, thats their job isnt it?

meh, live and let live i say. the only thing that'll annoy me is if they change the drinking age to 21, if so i may have to bring down the government in a bloody revolution

i agree with it personally, although people are still going to be able to get them
it will cause a lot of hassle to shop keepers selling cigs to people who are 16/17 though with them kicking up a fuss

How is it making more work for shop keepers? All shops operate a challenge 21 policy so any young person gets ID'd these days, it makes less work really because you only have to remember one date now...

I started smoking when i was 14 and buying them myself at age 14,so upping the age limit wont really make much diffrence to be honest.
Ive given up now though.
And me and my mates started going clubbing in swansea at age 15 i had the good fortune of being 6ft3 at age 15 so never got id'd for anything,so i cant see how upping the age limit to 18 will make much diffrence at all.
You can have sex at 16,ride a 50cc motorbike at 16..but not smoke? makes sense

But if you have regulars near a school, like we do where I work, you don't ID. Now it will just be a ball ache.

Fair enough. If I've ID'd one before, and they come in to buy cigarettes, I'm not going to ID them again.
Now we have to, and yes, I will do my job. Don't fancy a £2k on the spot fine or what ever it is.
I just hope they don't vandalise my car

Good idea which actually makes it easier for shopkeepers - its easier to prove being 18 than 16.
