all the time its stop smoking, smokingis bad for you, lets put pics of lungs on boxes of tabs to put people off smoking etc
tax on tabs and baccy must be 50% atleast. say an average of 4-5 million people smoke. thats over £2 a day on average per person, so say near 10 million quid a day on tax to the government. i know it maybe goes elsewhere. but if everyone stopped smoking would the nhs go bust?
for this very reason, i think smoking saves lives, and i encourage anyone of chav origin that doesnt smoke to do so by giving them cigs when i see them. it saves me getting beat up, and theyre going to amount to nothing anyway, so they might aswell save someones live in-directly.
am i wrong to think this?

All the money made from tax on smokers is probably used to care for them once they get lung cancer, etc etc.

its an interesting theory, for any kind of accuracy we need to do some maths and work out how much the NHS is spending on diseases that are alegedly caused by smoking

there are less cases of people going into hospital with smoking related illnesses than there are all other things combined though. without the cash from the smokers what happens then?

Its a fact that smoking puts in more money to the UK than it costs via the NHS/stop smoking campaigns, etc. but I think overall it will be fairly similar amounts when you also take into account other costs such as second hand smoke and such.
Personally I dont see a big deal about actually STOPPING people from smoking. If they want to then let them. I agree with not allowing them to smoke around others who choose not to - simply for health reasons behind it.

why?
I agree tax on petrol should be cut until they come up with a viable transport policy, but to say they should do away with them and tax something totally unrelated is ridiculous.

I see what he is saying. But maybe not do away with them on petrol. Maybe just decrease it and increase it on fags and alcohol

Cigarettes and Alcohol don't bring in as much money as petrol, the government will NEVER do that, it's just not worth it for them.

i still think the amount of cases in a hospital that have nothing to do with a smoking related illness even via second hand smoke completely out weigh the cost of treating those for smoking related tihngs. smoking is possibly already the highest tax paid on a single item of, well, in the case of a smoker, a daily purchase.
without for example 10million a day from tax on people smoking, would there be enough to run the nhs? would your future son or duaghter have to go private for a broken arm and cost you money? (which anyone would pay as its your child i know that)

TBH though they are totally unrelated, so not sure why the Govt. would decide to punish one and then not the other when they arent linked.
I agree that their current transport policy is stoooopid, but their main problem is the unsustainablity of public transport, not the levels of tax on petrol.

Already am and always will be private medical, not going to put up with the shite service of the NHS.
I do agree though, think in the current climate and with the Govts. current policies without the tax coming from smokers then this country would be fucked...and not just the NHS as that tax gets spent all over the show.

thats it though cosmo isnt it? theyre wasting our money trying to get people to stop doing something that they make a lot of money from.
or, are they saying stop smoking, and putting all the pics and warnings on as they know the chv culture, well youths in general will do the opposite, which in future years will keep the revenue coming in?
from my own reasons, ie i smoke a lot of herb related stuff, i cant stop smoking.

I think they have to be seen to atleast be trying to stop smoking...as thats obviously what 9most) voters want.
Me personally....dont smoke, and would rather they didnt waste money trying to stop people from doing so. Aslong as its not forced in my face, as in when Im out, then it doesnt bother me.
