Saw this tonight

Hmm, Tarrentino's lost the plot It was definatley not a reservior dog, pulp fiction or jackie brown

The only good part of the film were the cars / sound track and a few fit birds. The rest was pretty poor and the plot was a tad thin / creepy

Though before I watched it I had no real idea what it was... but since I've found out it's 1 of 2 new films he's done (only 1 being released in the uk) - which are to do with the 'grindhouse' era, where his films just pay homage to the old days of cinema, where it was about the thrill, no cgi etc.

Having listened to him in interviews, it's clear he's more concerned with the process than the product.

What do you mean by second part?

I watched about 2 hours of 'Death Proof' - I haven't watched the other film in the grindhouse thing (Terror Planet or whatever it is).

Death Proof was imo, across between Dusk Till Dawn, Kill Bill and Greese

It was just a lot of birds talking about shit - making me think it was almost a chicks flick... but then you randomly get a car just cutting them all in half.

I just constantly felt like I had missed a big chunk of the movie because I didn't really understand what was going on / why the bloke was killing people with his car.

The start with all the female dialogue was pretty boring. Then the whole part of the film in the bar, was good, it was building up the characters etc - Hey 'Who's this guy?' - 'Stuntman Mike' ... Then after the bar was a bit lol... Then randomly it's just like 14 months later and this imo is where it doesn't really make any sense (bit like a dusk till dawn, ah fuck it) ... Now a new set of Girls more just general female chatter... 1 of them (the actual stunt double for uma in kill bill) decides she wants to test drive a muscle car - 1970 440 whatever.

She gets to test drive it, but get's her mate to drive, while she surfs on the bonnet

Then randomly the bloke who kills people with his car appears, starts bashing them off the road with her on the bonnet - but does a really crap job. They survive and he's laughing at them, and get shot. Then cries like a baby... Starts begging for mercy etc.

This guy in the 1st half of the film was a cool, tough guy. In the second half of the movie he's a complete pussy / girl.

Essentially he dies and it says 'the end'

Tarrantino didnt do the other film did he? Thought it was some other director who he teamed up with and both did these two films that they linked together like used to happen in the 'Grindhouse' era.

But sitting and watching two films over 5+hrs didnt go down too well so split them and this got released here.

Nah the grindhouse film wasn't 5+ hrs... Think the grindhouse was like 2 hours - 3 hours... The films were cut down to fit together, to be two action packed, thrilling films in one.

Now he's released it as a seperate film (Death Proof) he's re edited to bring it back to about 2 hours for this film, which he says is good as he got to include more that he wanted to... but imo he left a lot of shit in

It's a shame, in some ways it was classic tarrentino... the music, the atmosphere, the locations, etc... Strangely the whole film feels like a 70's movie - but is obviously based in modern day (the cars / the ipod etc).

But despite all this, the plot was pretty weak and the way it was told was even worse.

Was basically saying it was a flop when they were together as was so long. Modern audiences arent used to going to the cinema for so long, where as in the past this was a common thing to do and was kind of expected.

Also said he knows it will be a love it or hate it film. As its not using all of todays CGI crap and is done using only stuff that can be done is real life. Was going on about how he used older techniques so isnt going to be amazing picture quality like some of todays films aswell.

I'm sure I read and interview in Empire that said the two combined were about 3 1/2 hours and when they dropped Terror Planet he had to lengthen Death Proof to 2 hours

It could've been a lot better if it wasn't for the girls just talking for the first 40mins.

I have no objection to the style of the filming, the lack of CGI, the atmosphere, etc... All these are

I just have the objection with the fact the film (the plot / the constant chatter) is just a bit poor.

I saw him on Jonathon Ross, found him a bit strange TBH, with a name like 'Tarrantino' I was expecting some smooth Italian guy in a nice suit... turns out he was slightly weird, with no dress sense, looked like he'd just walked out of the gym with those dodgy trainers on...................... IMO

Buying this film right now.

Is it worth buying the Grindhouse thing?
