"I am almost certain it will not have escaped the attention of any Scot who visits this website that one of this country's leading sportsmen was taken from us in the most tragic of circumstances last Saturday afternoon. While piloting his helicopter, Colin McRae, accompanied by his young son Johnny and two close friends met with mechanical difficulties which caused the aircraft to ditch close to the McRae family home. There were no survivors.

This event has made a lasting impression on me personally and I know the same is true of many of the members of this site. We are currently working to commemorate Colin McRae's life and pay our respects to him, his son and their friends in the most fitting way we can think of.

At present the plan is to have small decals created which people can affix to their car window in a similar style to that used by Colin on his rally cars, under noted with the years of his life - 1968-2007. Unlike some sick people who are cashing in by selling similar stickers on eBay thanks to John at Evo Graphics we will be able to give these stickers away free of charge. We are also hoping to convoy to the McRae stages in a couple of weeks as a road going tribute to the man who became known the world over for his determination and driving skills.

There is an ongoing thread on our forum where you can read about how our plans are coming along with messages posted by site users about Colin himself."

Surely if you were making comparisons you would have said...'i didn't see anyone outside Pavarotti's gate with a half assed rendition of Nessun Dorma'?

i do agree with steve, for "cruisers" to drive past his house, i dont think the family or any1 would see it as a mark of respect etc, i believe the family, motorsport legends should be paying tribute. i dont see driving past his house as appropriate, say i was to go pop tomorrow i wouldnt expect steve to drive past my house in his VRS and slowly shed a tear saying "that boy loved cars"

sorry i have strong views on this, plenty of people, myself included want to honour and share there respects for the man, driving around outside there house, following funeral cars and making a nuisance of yourself on cruises are not ways to do it

Thas what I ment, fingers didnt work..

And as for the cruisers, more so than anyone cruisers loved him.. So why not do what they enjoy and do it for a cause? They are cruising the WRC route or something, not past Lanark tooting their horns. And Im sure Mr McRae would be honoured if he knew people felt this way.

Agree with Steve, would the family really want some chavs organising a cruise? Surely setting up a fund for young rally drivers or something would be far more sensible and relevant.

doubt it, cant see McRae really caring too much for the McDonalds brigade, lets not forget his son was killed also, he had nothing to do with cars or rallying, that to me is almost more tragic then mcrae himself dying, noone seems to want to respect this.

i also dont see the automatic connection with wrc rallying and some neds driving about in cars.

Totally agree with everything there Steve. Leave the family in peace and do something usefull like set up the fund as I mentioned to help young people get into rallying etc.

ok ok, ill let you rant on and on about all cruisers being "chavs" and "neds", end of the day you know half the people on here are not and they enjoy a cruise.

Many of the cars that my friends have are not bammed up little cars, but high perforamance cars, singe we aint into the whole stick shit on your car anymore. I thought it was a noble and nice idea.
