Like i've said, dirty diesel is for me and my driving!!

If you do mega mileage then fair enough, I too would get a diesel and map it to get the most from it, although I still feel a 105bhp 1.4 petrol is more fun than a 150bhp 1.9 turbo diesel, just down to how a petrol revs and sounds.

Diesel cars don't really cost a quater as much to run as a petrol car. That's a gross overstatement if I've ever heard one.

I was reading an article a few months back were it said that due to the original cost of diesels vs petrols and due to diesel being more expensive than petrol that it takes about 5 years to actually make you better off. I might be wrong but that just what i read

Actually i remember that comment.

The Derv costs more to buy, so he compared how many miles you'd have to do to equal the overall costs of buying the derv over the petrol.

Petrol used more juice, but the derv cost more, buy a couple of grand.

A couple of grand bought something like 15,000 miles worth of fuel, so you'd of ahd to do that many miles to make any kind of saving.

It was something like that im sure, was quite a few years back.

I've had a phone call today to go and see a Fabria VRS. But also got a phone call off my mate saying there was a nice little flat for sale around the corner from us. I'd rather put money into the flat if we can get it and rent it off.

Diesel engines are meant to last longer, hence i wouldn't mind one. I do 2000 miles a month roughly and already blow the Corsa engine up once. It's only done 20k too

yeah i can actually

diesals do last longer honest they do, they can go through anything and still be driveable, the only thing that took golf of road was the accident

Yes thats true. I might be wrong, but i remeber watching a clip on a bmw 3 series diesel (330d) It said to get the money back on orginal cost vrs the petrol equivelant (might be different now because diesel are getting cheaper to buy) you would have to cover 200k miles to start saving!

Alot of people dont buy them now days for out and out money savers from day one, they buy them because they are comfortable at higher speeds compared to their petrol friend, and if travelling long distances (like a sales man/women) it can save you alot of time as you dont have to fill up as often!
