http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/driving/jeremy_clarkson/article1808578.ece

some spot on points in here which is exactly why i dont like it

quote:
The trend for young people to fit exhausts like Kazakhstan pipelines and illuminate the underside of their cars with neon is over. Just as Vauxhall gets round to milking it.

quote:
The fact of the matter is that Vauxhall has had it, really. And it’s the same story with Ford. For the past seven years they’ve been trying to sell you a V6 Mondeo but you wouldn’t pay any attention. You wanted an Audi, or a Lexus, or a BMW. Not a Mondeo, even though, pound for pound, the Ford was demonstrably and obviously better than whatever you ended up buying.

quote:
It appears to have crashed into an out-of-town motorist accessory superstore and emerged on the other side with every single part attached to every single bit of its bodywork. There are spoilers, extra lamps, fat wheels, Philishave, Just For Men bits of aluminium-look plastic here and there, and sills like an American footballer’s work garb.

it seems he doesnt think its a bad car overall though

Wrong. With a turbocharged 1.6 litre engine it will hit 60 from rest, without too much torque steer, in less than seven seconds. Keep churning away at the manly six-speed box and in fairly short order the needle will be nudging 140. That’s fast for any hot hatch. For a small Vauxhall it’s amazing.

Better still is the way it corners. The lifelessness of old is gone and in its place is a chassis that lets the tail drift when the limit is reached. It puts me in mind of an old Peugeot 205 GTi, and that’s about the highest praise you can lavish on any car.

yes steve ,miss out the parts which say it's a very fast hot hatch and handles just like a peugeot

clarkson talks shit and is a total sell out which has lead to his recent shit TV programs. the youth of today wouldnt class clarkson as cool, so they certainly dont want a car he approves of, so in that sense the vxr is a succses.

When i was 18 getting the piss taken out me by my old man, his mates for my venoms and janspeed on my 1.6 sport i didnt care, the fact these 'old men' didnt like it made me like it more.

lets not forget who this car is aimed at

i did read the artical, a good drivers car that the older generation dont approve of the styling. Sounds like vauxhaul have hit the nail on the head.

was just trying to point out that clarkson 'not approving of the styling' will do this car no halm at all

tbh baskey has a point. if your grandad says your car is cool, you probably won't want to be seen dead in it...

i live in a small town, two kiddys who are 18 both have astra vxr's. My brothers mate is 19 and just put a deposit down on a corsa vxr. PLus my nabour is 18 and drives a brand new focus st in white.

I dont know where there getting the money from but alot more youngsters seem to be in the market for these cars today.

yes, and his clues suggest its a very good car do they not? styled appropriately for the market its aimed at?

steve, you hate campain for the corsa vxr is pointless. its a better car to drive than anything you have ever owned. give it a rest, and move on to something else. your as old, boring, and pointless as ian griffiths is.
