I'd spend half the session on fitness, and half on fighting techniques and moves.

My fav was the knee or legs, although I never quite got the spinning roundhouse kick. I'd only get 3/4 the way round when i stuck my leg out.

Loved kickboxing. Really hard work though.

Wanna do it for fitness mostly, but i also live on my own and being a girl coming home at strange times you never know, if i was put in a nasty situation id at least try to be able to defend myself a bit!

unless you are of a very advanced level and or experienced, trying to pull of the latest uber 1337 spin kick that you learnt down your village hall is probably going to get you killed.

not necessarily you dont have to go 'jackie chan' as yo call it to stun someone enough just to give you time to maybe get away.

lol you obviously havent seen the dennis pennis video or you would have got the joke.

my point about trying pull of your moves defending yourself a street combat situation will get you killed unless you are a master.

You've lost me - i will try and make a point of watching it!
My point tho is in this day and age i dont think learning to try and defend yourself and keep fit is a bad thing

Aye, but kickboxing teaches close quaters fighting. Use of elbows, knees, head grips, head butts as well

WE were made to stand against a wall, and basically dodge punches Can't go backwards, can nly duck and weave while someone standing front tries to punch you. You wern't allowed to use your arms to defend yourself, just move you head out the way.

Still, you learned quick, if you didn't, you would get belted one

Yes, its probably the karate, twaekwondo or anything else with fancy ass jackie chan bollocks that will get you sparked the fuck out in a pub by a grant mitchell beer monster if you try to implement it.

2 things annoy me about kickboxing* though :

1) If somebody goes to kickboxing they are suddenly "hard" and can do everyone in the pub
2) everyone knows a mate, who knows a mates brothers mate who was european champion or some shit. seriously we must have had 25,000 euro champioins in the last few years.

* No disrespect to the sport or the professionals/amateurs that fight at a competitve level intended.

well regarding films i think hes made his money and is enjoying the easy life. I did read something about a big movie produce promising to resurect his movie career if he got in 'shape'.

Have a look at this video, he is 7th dan aikido and personally i believe his style of fighting to be very effective in a street combat situation.

It's clever stuff and he makes all the moves look so easy the clever thing is that he isn't using all his energy but the guy fighting him is using all his!
