Obesity costs the British economy as much as 7.4 billion pounds per year, and study published in the British Medical Journal warned in December that dealing with obesity could bankrupt the National Health Service.
read that in the news today, thought it was quite funny

They shouldn't treat people with self inflicted diseases like type 2 diabetes or lung cancer

Beacause it's a known fact that if you eat twinkies all day long you get fat, you then get type 2 diabetes or a heart attack. It's also a known fact that if you smoke you get lung cancer.
If you feel you need to do these things there are plenty of pprivate health care companys who will gladly take your money for treatment.

I think that anthrax is more effective if you inhale it, perhaps an inhaler would do a better job?

That's a valid argument, however driving a bit too fast or fucking up is more of an accident in my eyes. Obescity takes commitment, you don't just become a 30 stone dough ball by accident.

ok true, a crash happens very quickly and obesity takes a long time, so therefore more time to stop urself.
But smokers pay a lot of tax and cigarttes and fat people also pay a lot of taxes on food.
What would be interesting would be a comparison between the amount smokers and fat people cost a year in taxes and the amount they pay in taxes.
By the way im not fat and dont smoke, although used to smoke

Apparently smoking breaks even, or even turns a profit, though i'm not really sure how reliable that information is, nor can I find a source for it. I was just told that once.

The usual justification for increasing tobacco taxation is that it will encourage some people to quit smoking and thereby 'improve the health of the nation'. In our opinion, a society that uses taxation as a form of social engineering is not a healthy one.
It is also hypocritical because it ignores the fact that through taxation smokers make a major contribution (over £7 billion) to the economic health of the nation, far in excess of the cost (estimated to be £1.5 billion) of treating so-called 'smoking-related diseases' on the NHS.
Interesting little fact there

In America (cudnt find UK, but probably to a similar ratio) smokers cost 75.5 billion
They pay 20 billion on cigarrtte taxes and the cost of tabacco settlement costs them 10 billion
So they cost 75.5 billion but only pay for 30 billion, leaving 45.5 billion.
But it doesnt end there - The savings that the Social Security Administartion make due to early deaths by smokers is 64.4 billion
So overall smokers cost 75.5 billion and save/pay 94 billion
- leaving a positve of 19 billion dollars due to smokers

Obesity is both an individual clinical condition and is increasingly viewed as a serious public health problem. Excessive body weight has been shown to predispose to various diseases, particularly cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus type 2, sleep apnea, and osteoarthritis.

Isn't that swell? but still type 2 diabetes and lung cancer are not self inflicted diseases.
