Long story short a customer came in to collect her car(Im a salesman) and her mother was being very rude (imo) and then went on to question the quality of PDI(pre delivery inspection) it had had. She'd wound me up a lot already by this point so I took the keys out of my pocket and said,
'Heres the keys, the cars in the carpark, you go and PDI it' .

Thats the short version, the full version took me 45minutes to type up as an email to my boss who's on holiday at the moment! and no, im not giving the long version!
P.S. I hate the motor trade!

Not yet, the actual customer was ok, even gave me a kiss when I gave her some flowers when we got to the car. There wouldnt have been any bad words said if the mother wasnt there, bear in mind daughter is in her 30's!
Fed up of customers demanding the world and expecting to pay fuckall for it tbh, what/who do they think they are?!! you wouldnt go to Tesco and haggle over the price on a tin of baked beans ffs and theyve got a much bigger mark up % on them. Thats why Tesco etc. are making such HUGE yearly profits, yet when a dealer has 13% in a car, customers want 10% off!
Robin, no chance!

Mark, the email was more of a statement of point than covering my arse, I signed it off,
'Is is me, or am I in the wrong job?'
and if something does come of it, when he's back I'll have forgotten what was said and how it went on!

I dont get what you mean jamie, we have a car which is 10k, 13% profit we could make 1300. customer wants 10% off, we make 300, less 100 for pdi leaves £200, take the VAT out of it leaves a dealer profit of £165, of which I personally get £16.50.
That 13% includes back end bonuses etc. for hitting targets. We've got some cars with £2000 off at the moment, heavily supported by the manufacturer, yet people are still expecting to get more money off and not buying them when I explin they cant have anymore discount, to be fair, I'm quite blunt/sarcastic about it, they ask how much off, I tell them £2k, their eyes light up and i say, yeah, youve got 2k off already!
Im not like that all the time, just certain people if they waste my time!

Do you still have the policy of no valuations until deals are complete?
Wills and Ellis in York wouldn't give my Dad a valuation until a deal was done so he told them to forget it!

no, thats down to the individual company, like SMC, they do that, my dad works for them as a salesman and he hates the policy. TBH I also think it's ridiculous. It like asking in comet, 'how much is this tele?' and them saying, 'I'm not telling you unless you are going to buy it!'

So you'd have to sign on the dotted before getting a price for your p/x?
Do they sell any cars? .
That said, you get some dealers who seem quite willing to give discounts, while others almost look surprised when you question their price against others .
