I arrived in work this morning to find my boss waving a penalty charge notice about! I've got a company car and have been caught on camera almost four weeks ago doing 55mph in a 60 mph zone and have a £60 fine and 3 penalty points! Surely a mistake but if i have been speeding can they do anything? And what should i do, because I obviously cant get points for not speeding! I'm a bit confused tbh

send it back with a covering letter explaining the problem and it should get dropped unless you were speeding and its a simple typo. Then again a typical typo would hit the 5 instead of the 6 if they were trying to type 65mph in a 60mph zone, i thought it was 10% before you got a fine?
My mates dad got a fine in the post with a letter which stated he had made an illegal right turn in london, it showed a photo of a fed ex van making the turn, problem is the fed ex van clearly had my mates dads exact no. plate on it. a 2003 Black Renault Megane and he aint been to london for years we live in newcastle.

i don't really fancy the points or the fine tbh so i'm a bit scared to call them to explain incase they say it was a typo. But i thought it was 10% aswell. . . It is a strange one though!

I had my OLD insurance company ringing me excusing me of hitting a van in a builder's yard and pushing it a few feet back somewhere up North. After arguing with them and saying how dare they accuse me they tell me it's a large van. Funny that I had a 350z roadster at the time!

Covering letter explaing that as the letter states you were doing 55 you expect the case to be dropped and no further action!!
Would have thought you could get out of it now they have sent you a letter saying you were only doing 55! (only send a copy with the letter)
Btw i know nothing about law so could be completely wrong but thought id sa it any way!!

Let it go to court and make them look like right planks when you pull out a letter stating you were doing 55mph in a 60mph zone.

Does it say that you were doing 55mph in a 60mph zone? Or has it flagged up 55mph in what YOU thought was a 60mph zone? If so, it might actually be a 50mph zone?!

thats what Id do
Just write a letter with a copy of the letter you got from them. They may drop it, or they may send another stating the correct speed, if that happens get onto a lawyer about it as could probably do something if it went to court.
Also....I though (certain TBH) they only had 2 weeks after the time of the offence to get the letter to you informing you of the points, so check the date the letter was sent and the date of the offence.

It'll be thrown out.
Anything in-correct on teh forms makes it void.
I went to court once, and they put the wrong name on my forms, so it got thrown straight out as its not correct.

I'd check the original date, etc. was there within 2 weeks then, just to see if there is another way out.

Any discrepancy on the letter they send you usually means they drop it once you contest it.

What date was the letter sent? And was that the first one your company received?

Letter was sent wednesday the 25th of july. And it is the first letter my boss has had. So the letter was sent 19 days after the offence. And it says i wasn't speeding! My boss reckons i'll get away with it, although there doesn't seem to be anything to get away with!

Check it's not a SP50 - which is un-designated speeding offence. If it is it could have been that it was a temporary 30 zone. I got done at 44 in a 70; argued it and it turned out that I had gone through a temporary 30 at 44.
Strange but just check the offence code

SP60 is undefined.
SP50 is speeding on a motorway.
