surely online poker defeats the whole skill and object of poker as you cant see there faces and try and work out if they bluffing or not

online poker is much more luck than real life. due to the fact, like you say, you cant see peoples faces plus people bet etc without really thinking so if you bluff you can get called by shit cards because idiots online don't consider what you have etc.
much prefer live play

My sister plays it live at our local Yates'. She doesn't do too badly, got invited to a regional tournament the other day. I think she does well because the older blokes that go take it too seriously and disregard her chances as she's a young woman. I think she is about 15th overall, out of 200 odd people.

As for online being more luck than it is live play, id completely disagree, online play is more skillfull than live play.
Being able to see peoples faces, in the stakes i play really means nothing, as the people u playt with dont get nervous etc, so tbh its not really much different.
Its all about peoples patterns, things they repetativly do sub consiously. the speed of there play, and a 1001 different other things.
Not saying its any harder, but u have to know what your doing, and be very good at reading people via there game play to make good profit.
Problem most online players make, is that they player there cards, not the players around them

i disagree with this. especially the speed thing. as when i play, if im have a hand or if im bluffing i will play fast. everything i do i play fast. if will put the same amount of money in ifs its a bluff as if its a good hand. but where as in live games people give you respect etc and fold, online the muppets expecially in small money tables they just call anything.
ive seen people call $100 on a gut shot straight *think thats what its called * chance and hit.
