Off the mark racing I've always been told its all about torque, "thats what wins races". Yet, my standard XE 151bhp 149lb/tq ran a 15.3 1/4 mile and my mates EG Civic with a B18 engine is running around 198bhp 142 lb/tq ran a 14.3 1/4 mile. How the hell do you explain that coz its bugging the hell out of me

You only have 7lb/tq more than him

He has 47bhp more. Its all relative.

the way i thought is torque only helps for the very first movement off the line then after that its the power that is pulling you throught the gears if you get what i mean

civic engine is very strong through the revs aswell, mind you, it could be your driving, cause my mate did 3 high 14s and one mid 14 at pvs, 14.6 he ran standard xe..

More torque doesn't trump more bhp.

If is worked like that i'd be beating most of the cars on the road.

Possibly the torque curve.
I'd imagine the civic has a flatter torque curve and yours may have more torque but only for a peak moment.

Yep/\
Yours might have more torque, but over what range?
Just peaks higher with the civic holding slightly less torque, but over a bigger rev range.

A corsa XE should also be mid to high 14s.

you actually want a less torque for a good launch but enough if that makes sense, ie too much is bad, too little is bad

Both Cunts. Willay's best was only a 15.1 and his engine is "supposedly" newly rebuilt, with a lightened and balanced flywheel and he doesn't run power steering, so its hardly down to my driving is shit. So you can suck me left one.

Hardly upset, due to the fact that your engine has had a rebuild, yet mines done over 100,000 miles still plodding along keeping well up with yours with no rebuild. If anything, your the one that should be upset, your engine is wank!

1st one had an issue with the block, something that didnt get changed, we swapped for a new one and it was perfect.

2nd time round I pulled a head bolt, something any 20XE is prone to do due to the engine design.

Yeah you kept up with me from a rollnig start, but from a 0 to whatever blat we had at santa pod, I spanked your arse.

Yeah my car was pink, but that has nothing to do with my engine.
