Headgaskets are common on them, not keen on them myself. Just a Rover 25 in drag, plus the ride is quite harsh.

My mate has just purchased a yellows ZS 180 2.5 v6. As with all Rovers theres head gasket issues, and oil needs regular checking.

they're not really that bad, its just the 1st thing that springs to peoples mind when you say k-series. you might have to do the head gasket more often than on another car, but other than that they are solid and cheap to run. its swings and roundabouts.

1.8 VVC is the one to have IMO, that'll be the ZR160, I think the 105 and 120 would be a bit rubbish, especially if you can afford the faster one

I now own a ZR160 its amazing tbh! compared to my 1.8 Astra G i had it does 320 miles to a tank (bout 40 /45 quid) compared to 285 from the astra.
It pulls well in all gears, first and second expecially, feels very good going to 70 after that doesnt run out of steam but it revs quite high in 5th gear so motorway trips can be a bit harsh if its a long journey.
In regards to the ride bein harsh its much worse than the average lowered corsa! ill admit you do get bounced around a bit but it feels refined, like its designed to do it, theres no crashing and banging that ive had before with lowered cars.
Then theres the headgasket, tbh if you have your car serviced when you should and take note of coolant levels etc whenever you clean it there shouldnt be an issue, failing that if it does go landrover have fixed the issue of the weak gasket so you could opt for their replacement
oh yeah and if you do decide to go for the 1.8 get the 160! otherwise out of the rest of the range id recommend the 2.0TD makes around 115bhp standard and yet returns around 50mpg much better than the 1.4 and 1.8 120 imo

i got a zr105, as for headgasket problem was solved earlyish 2003, but if you like a hard ride lots of rattles and squeeks then go for it, nto as bad as it sounds but isnt that good either, but i would get the 120 if i were you, the 105 is ok but you get bored quickly

they do look good, especially in the blue and grey colours i think! And from an owner i've heard they handle very well. I was looking into them a while back, insurance seems a bit steep for what a lot class as a Rover

like said before....Head gaskets. two of my mates have had them.
electric window motor broke off the mount.
boot wouldnt close and lock
used to leak water from the rear wheel arches.
power steering failure.
basically the bad points are build quality tbh.

Interior quality is shit, bits will fall off all the time. Nice noise from them, quite a throaty grunt to it.

all these cars are is a rover with a body kit they dont have abs or any safety features. infact the discs are solid. they dont have any electrics unless you get the 105+ model.
they do handle quite well though.

thanks for your opinions! still havent quite made my mind up yet, will have to see whats on the go after i sell my corsa, which wont be for a few weeks yet. its in the garage cuz the badgers that 'repaired' it after my accident in november last year fcuked up royally!!
is 1500 too much to ask for a 2000 reg 1.6 sport, about 80k, good condition, just one tiny spot of rust underneath the rear wiper and a couple of little spots on the bottom of the drivers side door. has a piperx filter, sportex backbox and debadged grille and boot. would have done more to it if i was intending on keeping it but ive had far too much hassle with it and just want rid tbh

The 1.8 160bhp version goes well and handles very well! If nothing they do have a good engine and chassis.

RE: Headgaskets
My dad had a 200Vi on a 99 plate and he does about 25k a year. He owned the car 2 1/2 years and it never needed replacing. Infact fuck all went wrong with it, only one sensor went and that cost about £12.
