I feel sick just thinking about the panic that would be, imagine how the emergency services involved must be feeling as well

Why didn't they put breathing aparatus on him? Are they a bit slow up north?

Does breathing aparatus warm you and the water up around you?

Do you not think they might have thought of that?

I havent read the whole article, bit it doesnt say he drowned does it?

I'd be suprised if they didnt put breathing aparatus on him, it'll be standard procedure in a rescue when water is any where near i'm sure*

At the end of the day, a man has died.

My cousin and his friend drowned last year, the lifeguards were on the scene within minutes but is was too dangerous for them to jump in to save them. They were right at the sea wall almost within touching distance but the emergency services have procedures to follow. The other guys family have questioned why the lifeguards never went into the water to save them, but at the end of the day it could have resulted in more deaths.

I'm sure in this case as in my cousins, the emergency services would have done everything they could within reason and for their own safety to save the man

Why? Because I'm questioning how this person came to a tragic end? Get a grip.

Not really, if they were close enough to keep his head above the water then they were close enough to wrap him up in something waterproof to keep him slightly warmer.

3 hours in cold water and you are questioning how he died. I would be extremely frustrated if I were related to him as it seems such a stupid way to die but i'm sure they did what they could short of hacking his leg off in 5 foot of muddy water.
