Given todays recent "events"

Its clear that lots of people are fedup with the same arguments, the same words and as someone put in a post, about how no-one is happy to help, but very happy to slag something off, even if the poster/question is really legit...

So, Migweb has a ban panel. Very good tool, means you basically don't have to read any comments written by certain people. So if your fedup of reading the same arguments/comments, you can add the people to the banned list, and you simply won't see their replies.

Good idea, bad idea? Just an idea?

It works on migweb ok.

I've also found, that you can ban people, then i've unbanned them, and ended up having good conversations.

Also, if no-one can see your comments, the people more likly to reply (like me ) won't see, and it lots of people have banned that person, then they theres no bait to take.

It gives people the choice on who they individually don't get on with/posts sh1te, and so they don't read it.

Bit like the ''ignore list'' in the u2u's.

Much more complicated than that. It needs to work when other people not in peoples ban list quote people who are

Fuck that it'd just end up being a head wreck and every other post would say 'what do you mean' or similar.

A bit monster.

You can still see that that person has posted, but instead of seeing their reply, you just see that the person is on your ban list.

let me go ban someone on mig and take a screenshot as an example.

There used to be one of these for Vibrios comments. Except it applied for everyone.

Anyhow, it's censorship and it's a bit of a childish thing to do.

Hmmm because I suggested it no doubt...

Works well on Mig.

This is jsut an example... I have no issues with this user and have removed them from my ignore list now.

Childish, or a way of escaping the childishness of some? Peoples choice.

Surely sorting the problem users in the first place would be an idea? Rather than letting people just ignore them.

If you don't like what somone says then don't bother reading it. You don't need to bother programming in new modules into the forum to be able to do that. It's got nothing to do with who came up with that idea. It just goeas against what a forum is for, if you know that somone speaks shite then don't bother reading what they have to say, you don't even have to reply to thier comments either

You would think that, but i've seen these issues before, and others ideas is to "teach" these users.. Nothing wrong with that and the principles, but it doesn't work as its been proved before quteia few times.

Banning is the simplest, but while 1 person may annoy another person, they may be loved by a few other people, so you can't just ban them without a decent reason (mind you, if the rules are adheard to, none of this would happen at all anyway, but that a moderator/staff issue).

As i say, its just an idea, let the people decide. Ignore list is a simple way not to read the crap from those you dislike/repeat the same things.

No i'd say the simplest way to ignore what people say is by not reading it first. Programming an ignore list is more complex.

When they get personnal, sometimes the spark is ignited.

If you didn't have to read the comments, you would be none the wiser.

And its hard not to read something when its the continuation of another reply, hence easier to add the ignore list.

If migwebs got the coding, it can't be that hard surley.

Your opinion, fair enough, but doesn't mean we all have to agree on it being the best solution. And im not saying my idea is the best solution either, but its a good one.

its not like you'd do the coding for it anyway....

The problem you're highlighting here is you can't see something that angers you without the red mist descending then.

Surely using a public forum you should have the self control to let it lie rather than have it electronically blanked out so you can't react.
