getting a 5 grand bankloan at beginning of next month. undecided whether to go out and get a mk4 astra sri 1.8 or spend the money getting a engine conversion done properly on the corsa. getting the corsa done would put a bigger smile on my face but only downside is putting that amount of money into the car and would never make it back. would this money cover the cost of a c20xe conversion but with full engine rebuild and good suspension, brakes etc?

£5k would get you a full on c20let setup.
but my advice would be to get a newer car that you will see some return on!

was hoping the 5 grand would finish the car off, engine conversion done properly by someone, new wheels and hopefully get the car painted. have been quoted £1000 by a few recpectable places for paintjobs so would be bout £4000 to get conversion done. personally i wouldnt want a let personally, rather go for c20xe or something like a 1600 on throttle bodies. would like some power about 180bhp that would keep up with most of the hatches around here. lol

appreciate what your saying gavin but it would give me more satisfaction i think to see the corsa finished. also i would need to keep it for a good while after spending that kind of money so the devalue of the car is not really an issue

no offence but if the pic in your avator is recent you'd be a cunt to spend £5000 on it, no offence or anything but i think you'd be better off buying stavs for £3000 then having £2000 to make it more your taste.
But if you can afford xe insurance then if i was you with £5000 i'd be looking for something newer and better than a corsa. No offence to cs. What about a newer corsa c sri?

TBH you'd be made to take out a loan and throwing it at a car not worth too much.
Get the newer car.

cheers for all the comments guys. to buy comething like a cliosport everyone knows what the are, so to have a conversion done on the corsa and have it looking shit on outside would be able to give people a wee surprise at the lights.

Newer car. Modding cars is generally a hobby. I wouldn't get a loan for a hobby. I would for a new car however.

fuck spending 5k on a corsa.
it wont add to the value and you're gona have sod all money to buy a new car when you come to sell the corsa, and probably still be paying the loan off.
It's not like 2.0 corsas are rare these days, if one wasnt too far behind me i'd think it's a redtop.
Why not buy a corsa thats allready converted if you really want one?

I would never take out money too modify an existing car. Far to risky. I'd just buy a really clean new car

but even with tb's my car would not be worth a huge ammount, its a 98 corsa...only worth sentimental value to me not £££ thats why im not bothered about tyre kickers atm and will probs strip it one day...

Buy a decent already converted corsa and make it your own...Or new car..
But again it's your money and your only young once so you should really do what you think would make you happest but 5k is alot to sepnd modifying your car all in one go with a loan..
It isn't so bad if you do it bit by bit but being tied into a 5k loan over ??? years...How long would you keep the corsa when done?
As somebody said would be better buying say stavs car and do engine work on it if your heart is set on a fast nice looking corsa

Im 'thinking' about borrowing some money to get my next car, difference is it will be 2-3yr old & still worth money when I come to sell it in a couple years. If you throw £5k into a P reg corsa then its gone....you wont see much back!!

Not being funny but 5 Grand can put you into a half decent E36 M3.
I know where I would rather put that cash!
